Who would you upgrade?

Voted Clancee but they should only upgrade him if he's gonna play round 1. If not hold onto and use it as an incentive.

Yeah, Clancee is the only realistic choice for us. Spurr hasn't shown a hell of alot so far this pre season, and he'd be the only other competetion.

I voted Spurr on upside only. Agree Clancee has performed best pre season, but Spurr has caught my eye a few times each game so far doing nice team things (i.e. handball & shepherd, run from behind) and has improved each outing. Plus given his age he is ripe to perform.

So far - Clancee has put his hand up out of the rookies

I don't disagree, have been very impressed with him this year, but there's added incentive for the others now. Spurt hasn't been too bad and Wilson-king could be anything by the looks of him. Not sure that he'd play this weekend, though.

Clancee's been great this pre-season; he's the only realistic chance to be pushing for the best 22.

If another spot opened up I wouldn't discount Schloithe ahead of Spurr, have really liked the look of him this pre-season.

Let's just hope that we won't have to be testing our depth too much this season.

I voted Spurr as we are weak in small/medium sized half backs and with Suban's history who knows what can happen.
[why I chose Spurr over Clancee in the poll]
I agree. I like Clancee and he's done a great job this preseason but I can't find a player in my best 22 that he would replace. Therefore, he is simply a back up player in case of injury, suspension or rest.

I think all of us are a bit more than just excited about Neale's potential seeing him this preseason. Well in the SANFL he performed quite well against the men in his few games. On the other hand Spurr tore it up, helped his team to the grand final and nearly won the game off his own boot. My family in Adelaide rate him better than Lower when coming out of the SANFL to Freo. For me, Spurr has greater potential (which of course may never be met) but if it is, he could be a very important, skillful and classy, rebounding defender for us who has the drive and competitive edge to turn games. Something we have been light on for a while now.

On current form you've gotta say Clancee, but I finally got around to watching the 2nd half of the Richmond game on the weekend and really liked the look of Spurr, he fits in nicely and looks a natural with and without the ball in his hands.

I would love Spurr to devlop and take Duffiled's spot if Duff can't work out the physical side of defending.

yep agree with this.

pearce should get the nod on form and effort, but i just cant see him realistically becoming anything other than a C-grader at afl level... which also makes me think that we should maybe hold off on upgrading.... because i think that menegola, roberts and maybe even spurr could become solid B-grade AFL players, and possible best 22.

if i had to make a choice right now, id go pearce, but there are others on that list that will/could/should be better players than pearce in the long run

Meanwhile, Lyon said Clancee Pearce, who played 26 games in his first three seasons with the club before being delisted at the end of 2011 and then redrafted as a rookie, was 'in the box seat' to be elevated to the senior list.

Pearce has been one of Fremantle's NAB Cup standouts and Lyon said he had responded to his delisting extremely well.

"You ask Clancee, he'd say 'I was 50-50 to be here or gone' ... but we thought we'd give him the opportunity and he's grabbed it," Lyon said.

Young midfielder Viv Michie will be placed on the long-term injured list after he suffered another stress fracture in his right foot.

Part of me wants to see what a mature ager with proven dominant performances in Spurr can do a la Barlow and Lower. In fact I wish Spurr had been given the chances that Clancee has had this preseason because then maybe he'd have really been able to strut his stuff. Hasn't he been subbed on every game whilst Pearce has been playing full minutes?

But Clancee just can't be denied. How many times have we heard he has been the standout in E-shed and Salim's many training reports over this long summer (got a special mention again today in the preseason thread)? Maybe the kid 's stepped up 2 or 3 levels, believes in himself that he can cut it as an AFL footballer, is already best 22 and is about to explode on the scene in the season proper. Could be a real fairy-tale this year...

Gavin Roberts for me.

He was highly regarded last year and was cruelled by injury.

He places 50 metre passes straight onto a teammates chest with ease.

I hope they hold off a bit on making the promotion which would give Gavin more time to highlight his skills. He is an absolutely sublime kick.

We need hard bodies in the trenches for the first few rounds. Clancy is cherry ripe and in great form. It would be completely against the principle of rewarding those who work hardest to pass him over. He is the example for someone like Walters that hard work triumphs over talent in the end if the talent isn't tempered with sweat & blood.

Roberts hasn't done enough on the track to be fit and ready to play Rd 1. Spurr probably has but is going to have to earn his stripes. Let these 2 fight it out in the WAFL for the next upgrade.

I must say, looking at the likes of Menagola, Sloithe & Wilson-King the rookie system needs a rethink. We should be able to slot them in if they are good enough.
