Dean Laidley for me. Has done well with the Roos - usually play above themselves and knows how to instill discipline in the players.....

No Voss on that list?

I could've included alot more on the list but thought against making it rediculously long. If Voss threw his hat in, I doubt he'd want to come over here to the wild west.
I guess there are quite a few other possible candidates but they can be covered by the other option.
Sheedy is wishful thinking, but he may be out of a job at windy hill come seasons end.

If cc is favourite for melbourne job then he should stay put as he is obviously the best available. I reckon some key players have let us down this year not the coaches..

Harvey from that list, but Laidley would be my first choice.

heard a bit of an interview with him tonight, he said that he's just employed the services of a manager as he fully anticipates a very active period of negotiating coming up. Both with North and other club I suspect? He didn't rule out a move back west, but said that it would be totally disrespectful to CC if he comented on the Freo job.

I picked CC from the list but I see I'm not the only one who who'd like Deano to try his gruff approach at Freo.

When you consider both he and Daniher have been coaching with some cost restraints he has done very bloody good job.

He'd soon chew up and spit out any primadonnas and have everyone pulling in the same direction.

laidley fits almost all the criteria being thrown about at the moment - local boy, experienced coach who can get the best out of his players and is known for his hard approach to players and the game. i think freo could do well with him but i reckon the kangas will fight very hard to keep him. sheedy is another who i think would do very well but is unlikely to come. out of the 'realistic' choices id like to see mark harvey or dennis pagan (even he may not be classed as realistic)

I think CC and Daniher are both guilty of choosing players by personal preference rather than form related. Danhier's and Pagan's records are worse than CC's over the last 5 years. Kevin Sheedy, no chance of coming. Not sure about Harvey as he has no record to speak of. Sumich, f*#@ off.
WAAAA!!!:( Seems like 2008 isn't going to be a year to look forward to, but then again mabye that's a good thing considering the expectations that we had for this year and the failure to deliver. Mabye if we are touted as winning the wooden spoon in 2008 we will get up and win the flag.

I am really warming to the "Dog" to coach us. If he can do that to a badly listed Roos, shit fancy what he could do with our list :p

Either he or Blight....bring it on :D

Sheedy and Danniher are the only coaches we should be going after. I can sense Sheedys massive ego being a factor in coming over here. He would love to be the first coach to take Fremantle to a premiership. Only team he can do that with. Sheeds will be at Fremantle in 2008

I actually find the concept of Laidley a little amusing. In reality he's still not got through a whole 'good' year at the Roos, but he's suddenly some kind of messiah. He is in his fifth season and this is only the second time that it looks like they will win more than they lose - he has copped a ton of criticism over the years for his coaching style (to me he comes across as not being far off a raving lunatic).

Why is he suddenly someone to chase? Why do people think he is the coach to take us to a flag or that he is that much better than Connolly? The much talked about strength of the roos is their 'shinboner spirit' - this has nothing to do with Laidley, it is part of the club's culture that was there long before he was.

yeah i have my doubts about JYD. i think the kangas have played in only 1 final with him and they got beaten so his record isnt great, but honestly i have not kept a close eye on their side until this year and i like what i see

i think the fact he has had to operate on a shoe string budget should be taken into account

That's a fair enough point pinkus, but I think we also need to remember that money is not the be all and end all. There are a lot of qualities that a coach requires that the presence or lack of money cannot affect. To me, these are the important qualities that we need to be selecting our coach on (be that Connolly or someone else).
