i cant believe the media hype surrounding Anthony Rocca being available for round 1. Or in this instance not being available.

yes all pie fans (me included) should love the possibility of seeing big anth lead, mark, turn and roost from outside 50. but in all seriousness it's been a while since we've seen it consistantly now. hasnt it??

i for one am a massive Rocca fan, always have been, always will be. We all think the same "when he's up and firing the whole team lifts" or "those 50+ goals makes all players rise" yes these statements are true. but im fearing the worst for the big fella just quietly. (hope to god im wrong!)

i just feel that this weeks buildup for round 1 has been overshadowed by will/wont he play?

his last game was in mid 2008. since then we have seen a number of young players prove that they are capable of filling the breach (if not long term) and we've made it to the 2nd week of a finals series without him.
There's been little coverage of other selection dilemm

with every article i read i feel myself saying "who cares?" or "what's new?"
now i honestly do care about his wellbeing and for his and the teams success this year, but i hope you all understand my point.

I, myself am more surprised when Rocca does play rather than him not being available. and i think the media should play this way too. Maybe i/we should just take it as a compliment that the media consider the big man as such a bonus for our side that they've mentioned his every movement this week.

examples of articles 4 days out from Round 1 game :

foxsports - http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,25234494-23211,00.html

collingwood - http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/newsfeatures/news/newsarticle/tabid/5586/newsid/73615/default.aspx

so having said all this i probably should just get used to it. he's always been a major focus in the media. im just sick of hearing the "will he? wont he?" and i hope it doesnt continue much longer.

id much rather see the headline "rocca bags 6 - wins it for pies"

so who's with me?

He is playing VFL this week

So if he gets through unscathed hopefully he comes back against melbourne in round 2

geez imagine the handful he would be for the melbourne backline to stop they have no one big and strong enough:)

they do have garland and warnock

both are still small but better then martin

maybe if melbourne put all there defenders on rocca then they can stop him:thumbsu:
Or bring that super dud Holland out of retirement so he can lodge himself on rocca's back and try and rape him in front of the umpire again, god that used to shit me Rocca would have holland all over him and the umpire would do nothing.

When rocca fell on his shoulder, first i felt karma and then felt sorry for holland, if he wasnt all over him like a rapist he would not of had his shoulder wrenched out of his socket:mad:

yeh i agree with u there, the umpires friggen hate rocca, i remember against west coast a couple of years back the umpire was so bad towards rocca and rocca marked the ball and he showed the ball to the umpire trying to say r u gunna take that one off me lol:thumbsu:

Optimax, I'm hoping he get's through the season unscathed. A big ask? Probably.

Like many I long for the sight of that enormous Black and White juggernaut plowing through packs beyond the 50 metre arc unintentionally leaving an tableau of broken bodies as he takes a contested pack mark and wheels around to thump a beautiful 60 metre punt through the big sticks. Aah the memories. :p

Is this really Ant's last year?

Jeez, I hope not but if it is I hope we have the luxury to nurse Ant along, give him enough match exposure and allow him to conserve those big punts for another finals campaign with an ending that befits this not so gentle giant.

It better not be "just a dream".

Having him can be so important to our structure and put fear into other sides, don't play him till his ready, would love to see him tear the dees a new one if he is willing and able :)

Anthony Rocca in full flight is one of the true joys of the Modern Magpies.
He can conjure moments of rapture.
Whether the explosive first leap of a giant blue marlin or the graceful leviathan presence of a whale shark gliding effortlessly but unstoppably through a school of minnow, the glorious thing about Rocca is not how often he engenders these feelings but that he can.

His worst may be pedestrian and have a tinge of farce but his best is scintillating and can take your breathe away.

Then and now.

I love the bloke. (in the non-biblical blokey sense of the word....:)).

oh i adore him too I just want to see him crash some packs kick some huge goals from outside 50 and show us that trademark fist pumping. And.... I would love nothing more than to see him get a flag and go out in style!
