Who've we got to come back and when?

Chris Scott - 1 - 2 weeks?
Brown - another week off
Charman - another week off
Keating - no clue as of yet
McDonald - out for the season
McRae - hopeful for next week
Michael - no clue as of yet
Lynch - another 1 - 2 weeks?
White - another 2 weeks?
McLaren - another 3 - 4 weeks?
Caracella - another 2 weeks?

I can hear this last few minutes of the game, but it's leaving that horrible horrible feeling of a floggin in my guts. It's been a fair while since we've been so very vunerable and the opposition has been able to exploit it. Kudos to the young fellas for giving a go this arvo. Aker and Power stood up when needed. Voss, Lappin, Leppa and Notting seemed to be down on their games too, are they carrying niggles as well? Or just weren't up to the task this week? Hart sounds like he worked really hard for the afternoon.

Maybe the turn around game like in 2001? I dunno. I just wouldn't wanna be in the rooms after today's game or in the rooms early next week. I don't think it'd be a night place to be right now. I reckon some of the seniors still standing will be pretty hard on themselves for their performances today.

What we see here is pretty much what we are gonna have next week too - could be a little worse, but I don't think it will get much better.

Hard to see us beating Melbourne, though playing at home is a help.

Really, what we are seeing is the downside to success. Our young blokes are small and inexperienced.

Hadley, Brennan, Notting, Shattock were all ordinary at best. Hard to see them beating opponents next week.

Corrie and Adcock were passable, but I worry about them for next week too.

I am not saying these guys can't play, merely that at the moment they need bulk, and soon. Especially Shattock - he has been around a while now, yet still hasn't taken that next step, either physically or mentally.

Looked alot to me like Power and Aker carried the middle, with help from Hart and Black.

For someone who is in their seventh season of senior football, having played a lot of football in that time, T.Notting is "not up to task" far too often - especially in games when we require second tier players to stand up in the absence of others.

Yeah, agree with you there Stocka - Notting is a worry.

The main thing that concerns me after today is this - you often think that some chaps merely need more opportunity before they will 'stand up' - well, today was a day when we gave a few blokes a good show, alot of ground time....and we got jack and **** out of them.

Really concerning.

Yeah I forgot about that one coming up. Is this a first? The state league appealing a not-guilty verdict ? I spose we only really think of appeals being from the ones found guilty/suspended.

So we could add Corrie to the not available list next week too if the appeal is upheld.

I gotta wonder if Chris Scott gets a call tonight to get his rump up to Caloundra tomorrow for a hitout in the Suncoast Lions. Even a little match time under his belt would be an advantage if he has to come back in to the seniors next week.

That comment about Hadley, Brennan, Notting and Shattcok not beating opponents next week is a bit off colour.

Notting had a fantastic start to the year and has been alright recently but he probably needs time in reserves.

Hadley has played brilliantly the last few weeks when he's been on for a quarter, 2 quarters or 3 quarters - so he had a bit of a down game, but then again didnt play much this week but was still alright, not as good as he has been, but alright.

Brennan has been asked of a lot and has delievered most of the time. Today was a bit odd for him, but next week is a different story.

Shattock, well he's been constantly played out of position and hasn't had many chances.

Agree about Corrie and Adcock needing bulk. They need bulk quick. Corrie and Adcock both won't play much this year, Corrie especially is too small for this level at this point in time.

In conclusion, I don't worry for the young players next week. Next week is a different game, a different opponent. Freo beat us everywhere today and were much better. Some of the senior players didn't even stand up this week. That's how bad of a game it was. But those players mentioned have played well and I'm confident they will lift next week as next week is a new kettle of fish.

No way!

It would be moronic rushing Chris Scott back. He has had OP. He has missed a **** load of football. He needs to play 3 - 5 games in the reserves and be right for the latter part of the year. That's the way he should be played. Look at Mick Martin a few years back. He had OP, then got it again. Scott needs to be eased back.

IMO, next weeks changes will be as follows depending on injuries.

IN: McRae, White, Spaanderman - we have to bring Spaanderman in regardless if he is ready or not. 198 - 200cm. Use him for tap ruck only.

OUT: Adcock, Corrie and Keating

But hasn't Spaanderman beeing playing in the forward line in the reserves? What good is he going to be as a ruckman in his first big game without the experience? Maybe we'd be better off sticking with whatever makeshift ruckman we can muster rather than screw up the confidence of a new kid by throwing him into the deepest end of the pool?

Nah just tell him it is for the week and a desperate situation. Tell him he is not expected to light the Gabba on fire and that he will be safetly developing back in Ressies next week. He gets a pay check and at 200cm it is time to Jump in and take one for the team. Besides he has a week to learn how to ruck and up forward would be the perfect place to move his arse after the clearences, considering our lack of high marking personel at the moment. If he gets flogged, then so will anybody else we use so why waste a quality KP player? I would even play him if Keating was available, resting Keating in defence when not going hard at White.

OK I know nothing about rucking so probably way off the mark. But couldn't we have a dud ruckman in and just have ALL the players around the ruck maiting for the ball to come down? That way if the opposition get it they just get tackled to the ground. Would look ugly but would save using big men who could be used in the forward line.

Also I hope the Brown and Charman are really learning a lesson. Considering who we had out and how we looked respectable until the last 10-15 minutes when they were just worn out, that game might have been ours for the taking with those two in. I am pretty cranky at them still.

Is White ready to come back? and how's Alistair in his recovery?

Exactly right. Who cares if he is not ready. He is 198 or 200cm tall. We need that height next week. Unless we play Shaun Hart on stilts.

Playing Spaanderman in the ones just because he's 6 foot 6 would not be the move to make IMHO.

He's played mostly FF and CHB in the reserves. Only contested a few ruck contests. He's still really struggling to have any impact on games even at AFLQ level.

He'd be crucified if he was to be promoted at this stage. We'd be better of going with Bradshaw and White (who should be back).

We're going to get slaughtered in the hitouts regardless. Better off having a couple of blokes with strong, mature bodies in there rather than a raw (and I mean raw) kid.

Precisely..... and it frees us up to play someone who might be able to contribute more around the ground.

Good, commonsense post Ripper - I was getting sucked into the "play Black Betty 'cos he's tall" line, but much better to use mature bodies rather than destroy a raw boned kid.

Garry O'Donnell used to do a lot of the around the ground ruck work in his day.
