why all the ump hate?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Which is what I've heard most of the players in the media since say.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if the umpires see a mark and free at the same time, they'll always still call the free. So even though the mark was there, they still call the free. Perhaps it's for calling time off, not sure. Anyone know for sure?

replayed it 15 times on IQ, he either handballs it out (or his fist "causes it to drop without handballing" if thats possible) or sloane steals the ball away. Took 1 step. No way its black and white.

Either way im glad the hate is well and truly back makes the win even sweeter

Edit
Ricciuto said it was play on too lol
Who's the little fella in between them

I actually think all the hysteria will be backfire for those having a bitch and for the other clubs that now might get pinged for similar situations and will then whinge that it didn't get paid against Hawthorn ..altho they lost the plot demanding it should have..

It strikes me as supporters who have run out of excuses as to why we are so good and continue to win. Funny that the up and comers in the Bulldogs have a +42 free kick discrepancy in 5 rounds and no one has ever questioned them. Yes numbers don't tell everything unless it is Hawthorn and the numbers support their argument.

The Cow supporter behind me commented late in the third term about how good it was that the umpires were not giving the Hawks a free ride after all the complaining during the week and how the Cows were getting the rub of the green. So a Cow supporter admits we are getting the better of it but one decision which really was no more than a 50/50 ball is apparently enough to say we get favoured. Also, if these complainers watched the full game they would have seen just how long players were being given to dispose of the ball, pinging Smith would have been the quickest call of the night and taken away any consistency.

I suppose, it's probably a case of me being really pissed off the Crows lost. As good as it would have felt to win that game as a Hawk supporter, it felt like the most rotten of losses from my end, it really hurt to lose considering the way we played and the position we were in. You guys wouldn't have felt that feeling very much for a few years now.
In saying that, we felt it 3 times last year againtgs the Bombers, Swans and GWS.. All were under 10 points after we hit the lead with few minutes to go..

Exactly

i get the opposition fans seeing things differently, its just the 'neutrals' that get clouded that confuse me
a cats fan on the main board telling me im dreaming that smiths contest in the dyibg moments happeb many times a game and arent paid holding the ball
cats fans are NEVER neutrals when it comes to us

It's the inflated self worth of the supporters who can not admit the faults of the team they have chosen to follow.
Praising the winner is the same as blaming the loser which means they have failed in the team they have chosen and being blinded by ignorance they blame the only other influence left the umpire.

To me, all this complaining about umpires all comes down to the better teams capitalising on their opportunities.

It's the same in cricket (perhaps even more so). Last summer when NZ copped a couple of poor decisions, that's all that anyone could focus on. Aus took advantage of the 50/50 calls and NZ lost any position in the game they had. If a team is good enough they will create another opportunity not long after and any damage is minimalised.

The adjudicating errors are exaggerated when a team can't take their one opportunity to win the game. The better team will create more opportunities to win themselves the game and will naturally have a greater chance to do so, considering that they are the better side.

Doesn't help our situation when most of the footy world is sick of us winning, especially when it counts. Now it's down to trying to discredit all our success on a couple of calls this season as that's easier to do when you don't want to deal with the truth!

One of the most obvious frees you'll ever see, but parts of the media think it was a poor decision. Just shows how little the media understand.
on top of which he held the mark just as long as walker did up the other end. Should have been 50m..... imagine the screeching then lol

I'm glad the free was paid, but I just wonder what would have been the reaction (if any) had the umpire not paid it. I bet there would be no howls of derision. You only need to read Slobbo's article that the player did everything possible to avoid it so it shouldn't be paid. What sort of comment is THAT? So although he did in fact push him in the back and land in the middle of his back, Slobbo thinks it shouldn't be paid. There's no hope for the media.

Forget the free to Popeye - it was a f'en mark, plain & simple.

I can't believe the mark was overlooked in the first place. No free kick required.

So all the outrage for those incidents has boiled down to ascertaining that nothing much untoward happened, and has any single foamer admitted they may have been wrong? .....no honour amongst thieves comes to mind

Just watched tonight's 360, discussing the Smith play.

All of Robbo, Gerard and Jack Reiwoldt said it was 100% play on. Jack even said it was the first time he'd seen it, and he reckoned it actually was a high tackle. Robbo agreed.

Compare this to the in the back to Thompson at the beginning of the last quarter..short and convenient memories
