I used to love the old Luke Ball. If the Saints had the old Luke Ball in 2009, we would have won the flag EASILY.

The point is that Luke will not be the panacea most Pies fans are hoping or think he will be and unfortunatley for you guys, he is not worth $500K a year.

Have fun on Friday night...

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

We never expected the old Luke Ball!

We are not paying $500,000 every year!

Luke has been recruited for a specific role at Collingwood.

Let me add this to a very fruitful discussion:

1) O'Bree was out on Saturday and I am sure a lot of Balls gametime/plan revolves around them being partnered

2) MM has said they expect Ball and Jolly to be better in the second half of the season after they settle into Collingwoods team

3) Wellingham is one of the first to benefit from our "first use of the Ball"

4) Ball will be a great in and under role model for our young developing mids

AND on the trade

1) clearly Ball was the best available player at pick 30

2) Collingwood clearly rated him around this pick during trade week and wouldn't give up anything more for him - he was not recruited as some match winning messiah

3) It appears the Saints have benefited with the young Armitage stepping up so all's good there

FFS let the guy play his role - every player at Collingwood who is given a role by the coach always gets knocked on this board - Daisy, O'bree, Presti, Reid, Toovs etc.

Super Post Mate

Jolly and Ball were discussed on the couch, nothing out of the ordinary, oh, except for James Hird (remember him, Mr Perfect:thumbsd:) who must know something every one else doesn't.

Hird: Ball's efficiency in the first 2 rounds is somewhere like 20%.

Hmm Really?

Week 2: 50% disposal efficiency.

Week 1: 72% disposal efficiency.

AVERAGE OVER 2 WEEKS, 61 ****ING PERCENT.

Well done Sir James, w***er of the tallest order.:thumbsd::thumbsd::mad:

not surprised really, this comes from the same bloke that gave a 'glowing' character reference for andrew lovett...

on topic though, i'd suspect that the coaching staff would've looked favourably on his game on saturday as he beat his direct opponent nathan jones, probably 1 of only a handful of pies players to have done so.

It was touched upon earlier in the thread, but Ball's value to us will be in September.

The problem with this football club for years has been we've had plenty of blokes who can win us enough games during the year to get to top 6 and even occasionally top 4, but who fall apart in the finals.

Ball's value will be in being a bit player during the year, but come finals when the games tighten up is where he'll come to the fore. I see him as the anti-Leon, if you will.

droped for what? doing his job. You dont expect him to come to a new club and win a best and fairest in his first year. Wait until he is a few games in its a new game plan, new coach and most of all new players around him. Its gonna take a bit longer then 2 games to be a standout in a new team and we all knew that. at first i really did think it was questionable of recruiting him but i love watching him and think he brings something to the table each week and i absolutely love him at the club. i think it has been a good move from all ends i really do think he has some good football ahead of him. Yes he is no chris judd but he is still a magpie and i love having him on the team then the opposition i mean what is better then bringing in a player from another club that wants to play for us. he went through so much to get to us now give him a break and most of all a chance.

I would hate to see Bally dropped, and don't expect him to be. Mine was only an opinion, and l also think he's fantastic for our club, and really hope he has a blinder on Friday.

i don't get it.

I do know part of the reason why Ross Lyon does.

Spoke to one of Luke Ball's old PE teachers who has always spoken very highly of him even from an early school age. Bally is super intelligent and apparently during a team meeting he questioned one of Ross Lyon's plays in front of everyone saying that "mathematically" it couldn't work and told him where it would break down. Rossy didn't like it and argued his point- and that was the beginning of when the relationship began to strain. From then on Ball was always out of favour with Ross Lyon.
Really.. an old PE teacher? So Bally keeps in touch with his old HS teachers? lol

Now I've heard it all.

Lol it didn't take long for snipers like you to try and prove you got the better of us. Well in actual fact u got NOTHING in NO trade as we got ball for free. Your coach lost your team pick 30. So suck it up and leAve our board dickweeb ball will play his role... Your so quick to prove something. It's round 2 FFS

err, he walked, thats why you got him. But thats cool, we dont need him anyway. He will be too easy to stop beinf effective friday night. We are just gunna put a jam tin in front of him!

Why would you say that. You are not only embarrassing yourself but other supporters as well. Stop with this shit.
