I can understand Geelong getting Podsiadly after 2009. They had just won a flag and were looking good for another one.
Hence, they recruited a ready made player to have an immediate impact in another premiership tilt.
Same with StKilda. I can understand them recruiting Stephen King and Michael Gardiner, along with other mature age players. They've played in countless prelims and now Grand Finals.
Carlton have finished 8th - 12th the last 3 years. So why are they topping up with ready made rejects?
Duigan - 27
McLean - 25
Collins - 23
Laidler - 22
Henderson - 22
Part of the answer could be their underperformance the last 3 years, with most clubs in similar positions on the draft table having made preliminary finals 4 or 5 years into their rebuild. Carlton is now in year 7 without a finals win.
So what do you think? Why are Carlton topping up?
