Whenever I go to Melbourne, I always go to Krispy Kreme at least once, and always bring back a few boxes me and others.

One question that no-one has ever properly answered for me is why there aren't any stores here? I've heard a few theories, one of which was that someone held the rights to a store here and until they open that up, nobody else can. I've also heard that it would be too costly.

Surely someone from here has looked into it and worked out how much money a store here would rake in every day?

Over to you BF'ers, someone please shed some light on this for me.

A guy I know tried, from memory, it was way to complex and expensive. Guy who owns the licence is in Singapore or HK,he wants about half a mill for 1 shop just to open the doors, then more, fit out etc.
Maths didn't add up

For the record
I don't eat fried dough in sugar, no matter how cool anyone believes it is.

It's not too complex or expensive for Melbourne to have several...?

The real reason Krispy Kreme is not in Perth is Perth is 20 years behind the rest of the country, not that I particularly care that we don't have it.

Couldn't agree more, it's sad considering Perth(well w.a) is the economic powerhouse of the country.

Believe what you want,I know what my mate told me as to why he didn't do it.

Not having and American Franchise that deep frys flour and water in palm oil and then rolls it in sugar, shouldn't be an indication of society's progression more its decline.

It'll be there soon. A few years ago you could only get them in Sydney... you used to get on interstate flights at Kingsford-Smith and everybody would be loaded up with a box or two.

There are enough rubbish seppo franchises in Perth as is. If we never get a Krispy Kreme store I won't lose any sleep.

If there is a store in Canberra then surely it can't be that hard to make a buck out of it.

Its all mathematics
If you have $500G can you make more than $50,000 a year.

Maccas gives you roughly a 10% return I would imagine KK would be similar

500K into another Biz might give you a 25-30% return.

Advantage is with big franchise you don't actually have to do much for your 10%,while to get 25/30% somewhere else you will have to steer.

For KK
From memory, it was flight to ASIA and $150g just to talk and get some fantasy figures.
I wouldn't be surprised if Canberra one, is same guy who has Syd one,he may eventually do Perth too.

KK stores are all company owned, not franchised. thats why no one can open any up in SA or WA yet.

i asked them about it a couple yrs ago.

having the first KK store in SA would be a license to print money. especially if it was at marion.

I've never seen anything so overhyped as when they opened in Sydney. I made a special trip, lined up around the block and when I got to the counter bought a dozen assorted. Got it back to work and we tucked in.
Never tasted such crap in my life. The sugar buzz made us all feel sick and you could taste all the chemical flavours. I've never eaten one since and rarely see more than a few people in that store now.

I quite like about half an original glazed doughnut every so often. Any more than a couple of bites is too much though.

They do pretty awesome milkshakes for a fast food chain however - hate to think how many calories there are in those.

Never forget driving past the one in narre warren at 11.30 pm a few years ago and seeing a huge que that went all the way out to the road. The majority of people in the car were fat..kid you not.

I am really suprised at how popular they were when they arrived in australia. Just by eating one you can taste the preservatives and what other chemicals they pass of as flavours.

Once i had a dozen of them in the fridge and was still eating them after two weeks. (I think at the 3 week mark mum made me chuck them out).

At this point of my post I would like to point out im not fat, I weigh 58kgs. :D

Aussie love affair with Krispy Kreme turns stale

* From: The Sunday Telegraph
* May 15, 2010 9:00PM

Australia has the most Krispy Kreme outlets outside the US

* Sales fall by almost 20 per cent
* Sales tactics "smack of desperation"
* Consumers switch to healthier fare
The company refused to accept our calls and has banned franchisees from speaking to the media in a vain bid to prevent the news spreading. Its latest annual report makes dismal reading.

"We have experienced declines in revenues and have incurred net losses in each of the last three fiscal years and may experience further declines and losses in the future,"

HA HA

I had some for the first time on Friday. Absolute rubbish. I agree with the guy who said you can taste all the chemicals.

Worst donuts I've ever had (yeah, I ate more than one just to see if I was missing something).

the doughnuts still contain a massive 27-28 per cent fat, according to research by consumer group Choice.

that would have to leave a bad chemically taste in your mouth.

Don't think they will last much longer. Love seeing big American companies fail here. Starbucks was another.
I remember how excited people around my age (I'm 22 now) got here in SA when a Starbucks store was opening in Rundle Mall a few years back. It lasted about a year I think, and once it shut down, everyone suddenly pretended they never liked it anyway. As someone who doesn't drink coffee, I didn't care less either way, but it was funny to see the same people who were so excited turn so quickly. It's not like there isn't enough coffee places around in the Adelaide CBD already (Gloria Jean's, Hudson's, Cibo, numerous independent cafes), so it was probably never needed in the first place. As for Krispy Kreme, maybe the money men in WA who'd fund these types of franchises realise there's no nutritional value in such a product and are systematically trying to ****** the company's empirical growth.
