give up our first round draft pick in a 'super draft' ! (suppose to be better than 2001)

uhhhh

ugso ln'w;4tq2
meh

i hope tarrents worth it ..........

What is the go with so many on this board re: pick 13.

For chrisake we got one of the best forwards going around, right now ready to go. It is like banging your head against the wall.
All this wallop about " in 5 yrs time rah rah rah "

Ask any team if they would trade that pick for Tarrant, you will not get a negative from anyone

He will take a ton of heat off Pav, allowing him to do whatever he bloody well likes. This trade was not about in 3-5 yrs time it is about the Now!
We are peaking as we speak so stop the whinny bitching and enjoy the good times ahead. :thumbsu:

I would of thought polak and pick 13 was worth a lot more than pick 8 or have i missed something.

Tigers had us over a barrel.
Polak was willing to run the gauntlett of the PSD draft.

While I hate bowing to other clubs...Loosing players for nothing..Aint worth it.

True sabre it was a game of dare we where never going to win.if i have found out right and our next pick was 31 they wouldn't of taken that so I now understand why
we also got 42 to use for soloman

Ditto to all you said Pep.

Honestly people if you don't realise that this is a calculated gamble to win our first flag within the next couple of years you need to take your blinkers off.
We have a young competitive squad that has been topped up with two proven players.
We have lost two players who didn't want to be here and have given us very little in the past couple of years.
You can't continue to keep planning for the future. Sometimes you have to act for today.
And that is what we have done.
Get over it. It is a very important day for the club.

Would I trade pick 13 in this draft for an inconsistent alcoholic forward who cannot kick straight? NO WAY! And there is no way in the wide world I would even consider giving up pick 8.
Pick 8 AND a player? I cannot believe it.

Draft picks are only what the crap teams worry about.

This year is the supposed "superdraft" which means the talent goes deeper not better. Freo have emptied the rookie list and Smartie will have some gun rookies lined up. ;)

One quater of the West Coast , Freo & Adelaide starting 22 are all promoted rookies , thats what the power clubs do. ;)

Funny - I don't seem to recall West Coast trading away their first pick last year. But then I guess they aren't any good...

I don't see this superdraft as being deeper - I see it as having a top 20 players (Mainly KP) that are really good prospects. You could argue that given everyone would go after the KP prospects early, it would have given us a shot at a Top 3 midfielder that would have gone Top 5 any other year.

Tarrant will be a great addition to the forward line.
Solomon will be a great addition to our Backline.

I hope we can pick up some midfielders in the draft but either way, hopefully duffman, mundy and hayden will get more of a run their with haddrill and solomon in the backline.

Could everyone just give these 2 guys a go. They are contracted for 3 years and we will get more out of them in '07 if we can give them some positive support over the next 6 months.

can't wait for 2007

Who was their first pick and is he a premiership player? If not , How many games did he play?

Would he be ahead of the likes of Nickoski or Priddis in the pecking order?

They were just lucky they missed us. :)

And who did you see the gun 18yo midfielder replacing when we have 8 players at least who cannot get a game on any given week?

All good and well, I suppose this was part of the 'journey' too, buying a full forward. Seems a bit like grasping at straws. Most of the times I watched tarrent play, he seemed soft (both GF appearances). What part of the 'journey' was this, the **** we need another forward plan. I would have thought investing in CL players more important than forwards. Plus, I'll bet Murph kicks more than Tarrent, for half the price!

back the kids.

For 1 hes not a FF and secondly Murphy should as Tarrant will be kicking the ball to him. The big stat to look for in Tarrant will be goal assists next season.

People aren't happy with trading pick 13 because we have traded so many draft picks in the past and it hasn't worked. It's not like we were screaming out for another forward, if we had traded what we did for Judd or Goodes or another gun midfielder most would be happy, but a lot of people don't think we were desperate for a forward who will take most of his marks outside 50.

If any team would have traded what we did for Tarrant why were we the only club in the race to secure his services?

Trent Croad was another player that we paid too much at the trade table for and signed oin a 4 year deal. That worked out really well, are we still paying half of Croady's salary or is that finished now? Tarrant will be on around 1.5million over 4 years, that's a lot of money if it doesn't work out.

Hopefully Tarrant plays well and he helps bring us a flag. I think most people criticising the deal are happy with acquiring Tarrant, but are unhappy with what we gave up. Anyone who thinks Polak + Medhurst + pick 13 is a fair trade doesn't understand the draft and trading or is deluded IMHO. If we fail to win a flag next year and Murphy requests a trade due to lack of opportunity Connolly and the people who have supported this deal will be at fault.

We will be paying close to a million dollars a year to our 2 half forward flankers (Tarrant and Headland), that's way over the odds.

Im okay with it, people bandying around terms "super" draft like its the great saviour... most of our solid players have come from later picks and rookie drafting.

Freo currently dont need more youth, sure its handy but that will be next year, they wont get a game at the moment CC usually goes in waves, 1 yr we draft, the next we trade (2003 draft, 2004 trade)... The 2 additions here seem well planned, Tarrant will move the ball into the fwd line - he will also demand 2nd best defender, Solomon will provide guts and hardness at the ball/man in the back - something Grover displays buy we lack across the park.

Its clear they are priming up for a shake next year and why not.

In any case the picks are just numbers, who is to say we wouldnt draft an alleged "Gun" player who pulls a Ryley Dunn and sits injured for a few years?

Plus people are also forgetting that Polak was a goner regardless...atleast they salvaged something for him - in essence it was Medhurst and pick for Tarrant...thats a win

Go Freo -

No we're not. A deal was done for Polak. We could have kept pick 8 and selected a very good player. If it was Medhurst and pick 13 for Tarrant, and we then got pick 20 for Polak it would have been a win.

Hopefully it never happens, but if Pav asks for a trade to the crows should we take whatever the crows first offer is? He's a goner anyway, might aswell settle for Perri.

Soloman, hmmmm, that one is a bit of a high risk selection, is big :thumbsu: , but lacks pace :thumbsd:. Tarrant is a fantastic pick up.

Hes Shannon Hurn and he played six games and probably would have played more in any other AFL side as he was curving it up in the WAFL. He is also probably ahead of Priddis (2 games) at the Eagles, but not Nicoski.

As for your second argument; we have 8 players not getting a week because they are surplus to particular position which just happens is not a problem. What difference does it make if you have Grover, Gilmore, Dunn, Thornton, Walker, Duffield (And now Solomon) in the wings, when you already have two perfectly decent HBF/BPs in Parker, Mundy, Dodd and Hayden already in the side? Or Andrew Browne or Haines as small midfielders (Previously Stribling, Cunningham) when you have Bell, Carr, Cook, McManus, Schammer?

And considering that Priddis won the Sandover medal as best and fairest player in the WAFL Hurn's form (if he is ahead of Priddis) has been pretty good !:)

Headland is not worth anything like $400-500k, he should be on half that! He needs as a few do a "Hayden" talk; his efforts last year were not consistent! This guy is a Polly in the making performance wise.
