Why didn't we chase a Ruckman ?

Club is on the record as saying that Maric is our number one ruck for at least next season. Bit hard to lure ruckmen over when you would be telling them that they would be second fiddle.

There really wasn't a lot on offer this year and Ivvy's still going ok, as good as anyone except Goldstein, NicNat, Jacobs and Sandi. Addressing it next year is fine.

What did Essendon trade for Leuenberger ? My memory it was not much at all... probably worth the risk if we can get him fit and going.

A condition of signing him was that he had to be the clubs number one ruck

While I agree he is starting to struggle, just remember, there is a reason why Goldstein, Nic Nat etc are considered the top ruckmen..

Lets get Darcy Cameron from the WAFL. 20 years old and 204 cm, averages a goal a game too.

Otherwise hope someone like Witts or Lobbe is under utilised next year and go for them.

I have been wanting Darcy Cameron at Richmond for 2 yearsm This kid has the potential to become a very very good ruckman and is extremely athletic and tall enough to compete , He is a good footballer and we should have rookie listed him last year

Hope we are looking at both Darcy & Shane Yarran who i think could become a good afl player similar to puopolo
We will probably go into 2016 with 38/6 ratio and will upgrade Lambert to the senior list which will give us 3 rookie selections

Mumford, Martin, Nichols and Goldstein are out of contract at the end of next season.

Whilst Lobbe, Lycett and a few other decent ruckmen may look for more opportunities if they don't get many in 2016.

This is why we didn't chase hard this year.
Maric will still be our No1 ruck in 2016, and we're not likely to entice many top ruckmen with the idea that they'll be playing VFL and hoping for injury to Maric unless we offer them ridiculous amounts of money.

So we wait a year (or 2?), play Maric and have Hampson as his backup (remembering that he did pretty well this year when called upon).

One of the big holes in our game at the moment is our rucking. Maric is not the worst in our 22, but he is 30 now and does struggle against the top ruckman. It is hard, because he does put in around the ground and kick a few handy goals too and people do like him but you need to make these hard decisions at times. Our contested ball really needs some lifting which will be helped by winning a few ruck contests against top sides.

Also, with more and more stoppages, ruckman are becoming more important.

My question is why didn't we go after a Leuenberger or Zac Smith... ?

Coz wif dem long legs, they outrun us.

199cm with a NicNat leap and 86kgs, wont take long to fill out either, he's not a stick he's a specimen

On the Talking Tigers Trade and Free Agency special Dan Richardson reckoned that talk of needing a new ruck is "a bit disrespectful" of Ivan and thinks that the Ivan/Hammer combo should do okay if we can get it happening properly.

Although i get him and Cameron Giles mixed up a lot who I would also like. Rookie them both IMO as they both have the ability to play AFL and only 20.
