I think Lloyd is definitely best 22 right now, he has earned his spot in the team and deserves to stay there for the finals. I understand that many people are anxious to see Mitchell play seniors, but unfortunately due to his lack of match fitness and the role that he plays it's hard to see him breaking into the team before the end of the year unless there's an injury.

Having said that, in answer to the OP's question I think it's just a case of "last man in, first man out". He's often been the sub, and it's not unusual for the newest member of the team to be the first name put forward when talking about possible changes.

Yes, but all the OP is saying is that it doesn't automatically mean that he should be dropped. It's an opinion thread.

Lloyds composure is what got me, 50000 port fans booing him, he has to kick the goal to seal the match, an he does it like he's played 150 games., if we didn't know it, we wouldn't think he's only played 15 games

How is lloyd last in? Rohan last in if anyone

Meant it more as in the last player to make his debut / least experienced, I certainly don't think he should be dropped!

Lloyd is the perfect Sub this year and deservedly playing seniors.

Alternates I have mulled over in the past have been...

I would have said Rohan was the first to go a few weeks ago but feel he is really developing into his new role down back quite well and if anyone is on the outer it'd now be the guy who's role he's coming in for (being Laids).

I suppose there's been some down weeks from Reid (due to form and an injury/niggle) too but I don't see him going out as he seems to be one of Horses favourites and who do you replace him with anyway? But if the niggle get's too much for him he may be pushed out for a week to freshen up.

Jetta if injured. He's looked a bit tired IMO the last few weeks too, just not as much energy as I'm used to. Maybe it's been his newer role putting his body more on the line lately. In any event, I'd like to see him allowed to be unleashed on the outside a bit more ala 2012 leading into the finals to regain some confidence and freshen up a touch if the harder stuff is taking a toll on his frame/body.

Like any young lad, Lloyd may get left out if he tires but I can't see him being dropped based on his effort or performances thus far. There are others who would most likely go before him IMO.

Want to drop Jake Lloyd

Every week i read out: lloyd

Usually for Mitchell (even if Tom is injured).

Now i love Tom and want to see him flourish at Sydney, but we need pace badly, Lloyd out for Mitchell makes that problem worse.

That aside can people who would drop Lloyd explain why? to me he is a bit of a ball magnet, good pace, great awareness and a good user, why is he out of anyones best 22? I would probably use him as sub ala Parker 2012, but to me he is a lock in this side, am i watching a different game? Can someone enlighten me

I think its because Lloyd has been perceived to be the weakest part of our midfield at the moment (This isn't a shot at Lloyd by the way).

Personally I think Lloyd would be the best choice for substitute on our list at the moment, he can really make an impact with his running when he comes on during the last quarter against tired legs.

Barring any injuries or massive form slump, our 22 for finals (plus maybe 3 more as back-up) has been settled and we are ready.

It will be Smith for Laidler and that is it no more changes from now on in.

I feel obliged to respond to this even though I think I responded adequately in the other thread.

If the Grand Final was to be played tomorrow, I think Lloyd would be sub and Mitchell out.

However, with three home and away matches to go, and with Lloyd having limited game time in the past two weeks (and noting that he made an immediate and solid impact when he came on against Port), I suspect the match committee will be looking to make space to give Mitchell some senior game time before finals. I think Mitchell is or should be the preferred candidate to replace an injured midfielder in a finals situation and the selectors might engage in some personnel management over the next few weeks.

That isn't to say I think Mitchell is Lloyd or that Lloyd should be dropped or even that it is a case of one or the other. I like Lloyd and I think he's in our best 22. But of the Reserves, I think Mitchell would be preferred over the others and with that in mind they might look to give him some senior exposure over the final few weeks. And Lloyd's limited game time provides an easy basis to create a spot.

The problem with that suggestion is Mitchell is only just back from another injury in the reserves and is having his game time managed there. He can't be considered close to a senior call up until he plays a block of full matches in the reserves first. Sure Lloyd might be given a game in the reserves due to playing as the sub the past two weeks but on fitness only there are players ahead of Mitchell to come into the team before Mitchell is fit enough to do so.

Yes Mitchell would be considered if things go **** up but he'll find it hard to get a game in the seniors without playing full games in the reserves first.
