Why Don't Australia host the world champs?

Basketball is my fav sport and the way its going in this country has frustrated me for years.

One thing I think may give the sport a big shot in the arm in Australia is by hosting a world championship yet I have never even heard of us bidding for one (not sure how the bidding proccess works with fiba)

what do people think about this and why don't we try and host a mens world champs or even a womens again (we hosted the womens in 94)

we also hosted a junior tourney here in the mid 90s as well yes? team featuring nielsen, dwight, pepper, mackinnon etc.

This was the semi against Manu Ginobili, Fabricio Oberto, Andres Nocioni, et al. Australia Vs Argentina. One of the best finishes to a game ever. Having watched the team I worked for win a championship it still doesn't compare to the end of this one.

We also wiped the Americans off of the floor in the quarters. Their team featured Corey Brewer, Brian Cardinal, Cory Carr, Mike Doleac, Evan Eschmeyer, Pat Garrity, Sam Jacobson, Andre Miller, Brad Miller and Andrae Patterson. Beat them 81-63
