In view of all the negativity on the other threads I thought I'd point out a few things about one of our more maligned yet promising players. Bryan has played very little senior footy yet he gives a good account of himself in the ruck and around the ground, kicking several goals in his few outings. He's big, strong and mean-looking. He got away to a tremendous start both at Collingwood and at Carlton but then sides started to take him seriously and it got a lot harder. He slackened off at Carlton, like many a good performer has in the past, and was rescued by Collingwood with a two-year contract, but he knows he has to perform, there'll be no third chance. Playing well in a losing team, as he did at Carlton when he began, is no mean feat. He got very good reviews initially. Now, after another initial taste of success he's finding getting selected and achieving on the ground much more difficult. This will be a good test for him. Whether he has the substance no one can tell yet, but the Collingwood leadership group - under Bucks and Mick - is very straight and hard-working. He couldn't have a better no-nonsense environment within which to test himself and he's got two years in which to do it. He hasn't even had a pre-season with Collingwood yet. I suspect that he will respond to the pressure, albeit he will have his ups and downs, but at 25 he has the physical maturity to play strong, ruthless footy. If he comes good, say, by this time next year, he may well turn out to be an inspired addition to the team.:):):)

magpie fan all his life with geat magpie bloodlines.

his heart just wasn't in it at Carlton.

Robert Walls claims he was very highly rated at Carlton, but he simply refused to train. Trains the house down at the pies apparently.

Yeah whats with the Bryan week? Guy trains as harda s anybody at pieland watch him its obvisous whe he trains, is loving being at the club and brings a real hard agressive edge to the gameplan, deserves his position IMO.

Yes there's a lot of moron woods "supporters' who are like spoilt brats - if a player isn't an instant success showing no obvious faults, they not only call for them to be delisted but do it in a disgustingly abusive way towards the player in question. Fortunately there are also a lot of supporters like you and hopefully they are the ones that go to membership events and talk to players - not that any of the abusers would ever dare talk that way face to face with a player of course. These idiots should realize that their web-forum abuse is not in the interests of the team - hopefully it has no effect at all, but if anything it would obviously tend to demoralize players and cause them to lose respect for the fans, who are one of the main reasons why they are playing.

I think Bryan shows a lot of good qualities - mobility, strength, fearlessness, presence, great disposal and footy brain - and potential to maybe become a very good player or even a star. Whether he does, or falls by the wayside, is anyone's guess. As you say he's only played a handful of senior games so for a big bloke there's no telling at this stage.

Thought I'd drop in on your board to check out Bryan's progress. What do ya know, there are two threads on this very topic.

Interesting to see someone post that Bryan is training the house down, as this was a thorn in his side at the Blues. He got tagged as lazy early on and never really did enough to shake it.

I always loved his attack on the footy and his aggressive streak, as he brought something that was sadly lacking at the Blues during his time there. Having said that, wasn't too sad to see him leave, as I don't think he was anything special or a solid contributor to the team, as a ruck or rotating forward.

I understand the argument for a back-up ruckman, but I'd prefer someone more competent than Bryan, ala Seaby from the WCE. And yes, I know coming from a Blues supporter this is a bit rich considering our deficient ruck stocks.

ONE Poor game and everyone is calling 4 his head. Digraceful. This kid is gonna b a star!!

I like the kid... far more upside than the dud we traded him for. Nobody was complaining about him when we beat Adelaide.

we didnt trade for him we delisted a forward/ruck that ended up there pure coincidence.

If your going to post actually contribute something.

How hypocritical, you say that he didn't contribute anything, even though he did, but you post that?

He's totally correct, if you don't format a long post properly, less people will read it, because you get lost in the giant block of nonsense.

if you knew anything about how the draft and trade works you wouldn't say that.we got bryan for nothing ,but on the other hand west coast would want a lot more than nothing ,and those picks were ear marked for the youngsters we got. and bryan and seaby are both ordinary. so next time we just click our fingers had he will appear

Oh... you got me! I know nothing about the draft and trading

Seem to have missed my point by a fair margin Toommy. Try and read it again; who knows, you might even figure out what I'm trying to get at. Good luck :thumbsu:
