I presume Sheeds isn't stupid enough to get rid of pick 7 to get Crawf... In a very average draft (supposedly and in my opinion) a second, third, fourth round pick is a lottery, whereas we're pretty certain we'll get 2,3 maybe even 4 or 5 good-great years out of Crawf....

I'm also presuming none of the young up and comers will be used in the trade other than maybe Winderlich, Richards (who I love but is good trade bait) Cupido.... What are we really losing here?

I'd even want to trade McVeigh, as I believe he is of value to other clubs, but will never dominate a football game, let alone be as consistent as a Crawford...

If someone can tell me what we're looking at losing in this deal, I can't see the harm... If its a short term gain, whats so bad about that?

Hawthorn won't give up Crawford for our "leftovers". They will want someone of value. After the supporters fallout when they traded away Croad a few years ago, I doubt they will give him up unless they get an incredible deal. They will probably want one of our better youngsters. The question is if we give away a talented player will we get value out of Crawford?
I would be very surprised if both Essendon and Hawtorn could agree on fair and equitable deal for both clubs on this one.

however, the hawks will not want to get nothing for him. If he says he is gonna walk away from the club no matter what, they will do a deal to get something.

I can guarantee you, Crawf would never do that!

Crawf is under contract for another season so he can't walk unless he retires. He is a great player but isn't what we need. We are rebuilding and don't need someone who will be around for 3 seasons max.

Publicity stunt. Essendon was able to get a photograph of Crawford in an Essendon jumper in the back page of the Age during the Finals when it wasn't even playing. The major Sponsor (3 ?) would have loved it.

I think that what he means is that he'd rather develop the proper way and that is to develop our own kids. Basically that he isn't worth it.

Thankyou for coming, now please ******** off back to Geelong.

if essendon really wants crawford, the main reason would be because hirdy asked sheeds to go after him. from all reports the 2 are good mates. and if a pitch was thrown to hawthorn by essendon i would think it be so they could keep hirdy away from retiring for another year.
the positive i can see is that crawf would provide excellent mentoring to the young blokes until he retires which by then stanton, dyson and maybe winderlich will become fully fledged midfielders.

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the main reason.

Definantly truth there though.. A quality midfielder would aid not only the development of our midfield, but also our fowards as well - i'd imagine it'd makes Johns' life alot easier leading onto a pass from Crawf.. It's all a bit of a pipedream though - he's too old, we'd have to give up too much.... and the fact he doesn't want to leave the Hawks.

um..........no thanks.

Past his best.
Too expensive $$$$$$$
Too expensive in what we may have to give up.

Next please?

After the Crows' experience with W Carey, trust me you don't want Crawford. You would pay through the nose on reputation only, and most likely pay for it for the next five years.

That's a fair point.

I do think it is a bit of a different circumstance with Carey however.

He left North in disgrace. He lost all of his friends, the trust of his wife for a while etc,
Whereas Shane is just a bit of a clown, good player, but a clown. I think his footballing ability would be less affected than Wayne's.

Carey didn't play well at the crows because his body was screwed, I doubt the controversies of his departure from the Kangaroos affected his game in the slightest.

Well yes, niggling injuries would've played a much bigger part, but the "controversies of his departure" would've definetely played some sort of part, only a fool would say otherwise, especially in the early days of his time at the Crows.

Geelong = 5th, Essendon = what ... 5th - last ?

haha - the point is Essendon would dearly love to get Crawf but the champ turned down the speculation that he wanted to leave, i mean the rumour was he was leaving hawthorn in order to play in a premiership ... then why the hell do u think he'd want to go to Essendon?

OWNED! Thankyou for coming!!!

call me a fool then, I doubt it impacted Carey much given his personality type - he wouldn't have given a toss once he was training and playing.

At most, imho, the impact was very very minor next to fact his body wasn't able to do what it used to. And that's assuming it had a negative impact on his dedication to play, it could just as easily affected him in a positive fashion - ie. I must work my butt off to restore my rep. That said I still think it won't have troubled him either way - he's not exactly Mr Sensitive.

So I don't think you can compare the Crawford and Carey situations at all - at least not by looking at circumstances they would leave the club in - and of course it seems he's not leaving.

Sydney would hold more interest than us anyway.

Do you always make up things as you go along?

The point is, we aren't as far away as you pretend we are.
The point is, we've took it up to 5 of the top 8 in the second half of 2005.
The point is, Essendon didn't start the speculation regarding getting Crawford.
The point is, Crawford isn't worth $750,000 to EFC.
