Just curious as to why Leigh Brown is getting a game? Is Reid injured? Surely you have a better option than him.
Thanks :thumbsu: (Not trolling just curious)

I wondered that too. Surely if you are looking for a ruckman then Bryan or Wood would make better options. Where is Chris Dawes at?? He looked ok last year

I think the issue is Bryan and Wood don't offer us much other then a actual ruck contest... Both can be almost useless..... Dawes, Reid and Co don't really have the physicality for ruck... Brown, whilst I'm not a fan, can at least be moved about a bit....

Wood and Bryan can't play down back, simple.

If we had played Wood tonight, when one of Hale/Petrie/McIntosh drifted forward it would have been a abit more troubling.

Wood is either rucking, or he is on the pine. At least Browny can move around a bit.

Him an Toovey. All I can put their selections down to each week.
toovey has his downsides (56% efficiency...only one clanger however) but he kept his main opponent in Lindsay Thomas to 9 touches and 1 goal...whereas leigh brown offers nothing but the ability to pretend to be a utility :P

Al sorncho makes a good point.

Thomas was the matchwinner last year. Toovey held him well this year. Is a good player Toovey. I actually don't mind him.

L. Brown will go. But than who does he come in for?

I think Wood is injured, so probably Bryan, which I don't mind.

You know he is going to bust his arse at least.

Leigh Fricken Brown. 1 solitary kick, GREAT.

I seen MM a couple of weeks ago, in the Brisbane match, Leigh Brown stuffed up, and the camera went up to MM in the box. MM looked quiet pissed, and mouthed words to the effect of "THATS IT, GET HIM OFF" with some other words to make it more colourful. I thought that was the last of Leigh Brown, but he backs up again and again and again. VERY MUCH like Chad Morrison.

Malthouse is very much like Shaw, a favourites playing arrogant pig headed fool, that HATES to be wrong. Although he does wrong so well and easily.

A BIT, yeah he moves that fat arse around a very little bit. One kick tonight, whats with that. Wood, Dawes, Reid, Bryan, I reckon even Thoolan would of done better than one kick.

Toovey stood Warren for the best part of the game.

Also Wood may have came in if not for a shoulder injury.

Thomas is a matchwinner when his side is up and running but rarely otherwise. as for a toovey, he is not a good player he is a sub par player that needs to get out of my team, sooner rather than later

I dont think there is much difference between L. Brown and Bryan , but we do need another big body in the side , ATM Brown is in favour with MM . About Toovey : he keeps on walking that tight line between servicebale and average , so thats why he survives ,IMO.

I think Mr. Malthouse might be trying to prove a point with Leigh Brown.

If he is, he is a long way from proving anything but him being the worst coach in the league. My attendance to the rest of the season, relies apon the selection of Leigh Brown. If he is in the side, I save money on petrol.

Your right on the money there. WHY NOT BRYAN, his last game, at least he got 16 hitouts against Adelaide. Little else, but we are comparring this to Brown, it is just a easy decision for me, when weighting up the two, Bryan wins hands down. Cameron Cloke would even be better, but that is another bloke MM had little belief for.

Leigh Brown is a suck up, Bryan may not be so much. MM loves his sucks.

Until Bryan or Wood can prove they can dominate the ruck at VFL level I'm happy to keep going with Brown. He doesn't get many hitouts but he contests the ball at ground level and can fill-in as a tall forward or defender. Many more strings than Wood, Bryan is ok up forward but a shocking defender 1-on-1.

Thats spot on. Brown is being used as a spare parts second ruck who can take a mark around the ground and provide a physical presence, until such time that Bryan and Wood prove that they deserve a spot in the seniors.

Personally I'd prefer a genuine ruck in the side but I can see that Brown has been of some value.

I just wonder whether this "one ruck" strategy will work against the better sides.

In the coming weeks, we play Stkilda (King, Kostichzke and Gardiner), Carlton (Kreuzer, Cloke), WCE (Cox - solo) and Port (Brogan and Lade).

I can see the solo ruck option working against WCE and Carlton, but wonder if it might cost us against 2 established rucks like the ones Port and the Saints have.

The only time Nth looked competitive last night was when Leigh Brown was in the ruck, in fact they kicked 3 in a row late in the 1st quarter while Brown was in the ruck.

Just wondering whether the one ruckman strategy might comeback to bite us on the arse, because if we want to push for top 4, we cant afford to lose any more 50/50 games.

180 games experience, backup ruckman who can then go forward and/or back and play an adequate role.

He is essentially there for versatility, Reid/Dawes couldn't go into defence or pinch hit in the ruck imo.

That said, I'd be very dissapointed if Reid/Dawes hadn't overtaken him by years end.

Why can Leigh Brown get away with 9.4 disposals a game, with 2.6 marks, and 4 hit outs a game on average, when players like Bryan gets 16 tapouts inthe game against Adelaide. I know he only got 6 possies, which isn't up to Browns average, but we don't need a forward, we need a ruck, to help Fraser. Bryan is a mile better ruck than Leigh Brown will ever be, as was Scotland a better player than Morrison was for the Pies. Its just MM's thing, he picks duds with the greatest of ease.

Leigh Brown is only getting a game because Wood and Bryan have not stepped up.
Bryan will be delisted at years end mark my words and Cam Wood still needs time but has been quite poor to date.
Brown was picked as insurance for the key backs the club stated as much after the draft but finds himself in the side because of no decent 2nd ruck. I dont really like him as a player either i think he brings very liitle to the table but that must also tell you where Wood and Bryan are at the moment.
