I was thinking the key to whether fellas like Polak go the right way is the strength of his teammates. I have No doubt that Cogs is made of the right stuff. It still burns in my memory when interviewed straight after a stirring victory.a couple of years back.and he stated "I love this club"...Thats the sorta balls and all commitment that takes a club places and just the example a young bloke needs to follow...we havent got too many of that ilk...and Im sure thats what put him into "untouchable" status....:thumbsu:

why the hell would richmond consider trading one of their best players in coughlan anyway.

why is this even being brought up? Who said we were going to ever get rid of him anyway? Why would we ever think of getting rid of him? It's like saying why we kept Wallace

there was a fringe element on this board that promoted the idea MT and from different angles I actually agreed with them...but the other night I woke bolt upright in a cold sweat and everything was so much clearer then..:p

If we can get Cogs back to 100% then we'd be a much better side than if we can't. Good teams have good midfeilds. Cogs is a very good midfeilder when he's at his best.

Will be a important part of our future midfield.

We kept him because his injury record makes him too much of a risk for anyone else to pay a high price for ( picks or salary ) , and his potential is too high for us to let him go for less.

Sorry if anyone has already posted this link :)

I think we are all forgetting about coughlan and that hes only gonna be 25 next year. Everyone is talking about our midfield in 3 or 4 years time being one that revolves around deledio, polo, raines, meyer, tambling, JON, foley, white, even howat. Coughlan will still be there, in the guts...and so will tuck...and probably even johnson. The fact remains we need 10-15 good midfield type players in modern day footy, and experience still counts for alot. Think about the eagles and the way in which banfield still held his spot despite being 32, or Chick at 30, even cousins and fletcher at 28 and 27. Or adelaide with ricciuto (31), mcleod (30), goodwin (29), edwards (30). Right now this is our failing...our oldest midfield type players are j.bowden, johnson and brown (28) then tivendale at 27. Whilst these guys are almost at the right age to be considered experience, none of them really have alot of finals experience (bar johnson) and only one of them consistently plays as a midfielder, tivendale (and hes a hack anyway).

^ Correct.

For example -

Code:
Rank Name Games Average
 1 Chris Judd 23 25.87
 2 Ben Cousins 22 25.14
 3 Daniel Kerr 21 22.95
 4 Chad Fletcher 24 22.62
 5 Michael Braun 25 20.12
 6 Sam Butler 14 19.93
 7 Rowan Jones 23 19.65
 8 Adam Selwood 26 19.46
 9 Andrew Embley 23 19.26
 10 Mark Nicoski 12 18.50

That was the WCE top 10 players possession wise. We need something similar long term if we are going to be any good.

Outside that group they still had the like of Stenglein, Rosa, Waters, Banfield etc.

An article pumping up Cogs' tyres so close to the end of the trade period says a lot to me.

Mate this article was written AFTER the trade period (only yesterday!) The trade period finished last friday...so this article was written 6 days after trade period finished...what are you on about :thumbsd:

Six days ago is still close to the end of the trade period. I didn't say BEFORE. It looks a bit like he was told he might be offered up for trade, but for whatever reason it hasn't gone through.

I'm hearing you on this... smokes and mirrors stuff. It seems like the RFC are mending a few bridges.

But, it this day and age, its happens at every club.

Carlton - Thornton
Geelong - Johnson
Melbourne - Yze

Every club has to do this at some point. They're not doing their job unless they try to improve the list. Sometimes, it doesnt come off. It can go one of two ways for the player... be a realist and prove the club wrong, or keep your head in your @rse and play for Coburg. ;)
