I'm not saying Gotch should or should not have
been sacked. I have no idea. I am asking if
anyone knows the primary reason he was let
go. Not happy with his performance as Bulldog
player development or maybe his team selection
at Willy or his coaching of Willy in the latter part
of the season and the finals. Any clues ?

What does Cameron have to do with it?

Peter German is now Willi coach and Gotch is now coach at Casey.

Pretty sure it was a Williamstown decision and it was supported by the Bulldogs.

Peter German has been appointed to Williamstown. I cannot see any connection to Leon Cameron's position.

I was disappointed with his development of the fringe Bulldog players (not Ward etc) but the ones that should be moving along quicker, i.e. Grant, Stack, Everitt, Reid etc.. his poor finals record was enough for Willi.

IMHO I've heard him in the huddle many times this year and at several club speaking enagagements. He does'nt exactly inspire me to go to war. Nice bloke to talk too, but had done his time at Willi.

Umm.....In business not renewing your contract is a nice (and legal) way of being sacked!

I too heard him in the huddle once last year and thought to myself at the time that fire and brimstone were obviously not necessarily required at half time addresses to acheive the required result, but perhaps I was right.

The delviery of his messages really seemed to be so laid back and sedate that I thought the players mayhave fallen asleep during the quarter time huddle.

Sacked implies you forced to leave ahead of schedule. Coaches get sacked mid-year. Gotch saw out his contract. We obviously saw we could do better and didn't renew but the thread title is still misleading and sounds vindictive. I expect that from A Current Affair.

Agree with this. I went along to the Willi vs Collingwood semi-final at Teac Oval. Listened to his qtr time address at the huddle after the Pies absolutely pantsed Willi in the first qtr (they had a strong wind).

Gotch's opening statement was something like: "ok boys, forget the scoreboard, stick to the game plan". Well, I was stunned, and so were the players going by their faces. It was obvious our game plan was not working with the strong wind that day and if ever a team needed a rocket it was at the moment. Well, basically the rest of the day was a stroll in the park for the Pies, Willi managed to break even in the 2nd qtr with a monstrous wind going their way....fantastic effort.
