Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with Bradmac, but wonder if, in the end, we were intimidated by Damic. Or did we apply the Bon scott motto - if they don't want to play for North, we won't pick 'em.

From all reports -Quayle had him a top 10 player - he was the better rated player, but we passed on him and let him fall to the scum.

Thoughts?

because Kav is nothing but JWS mark II.
 
Simply we went for the best player available who would compliment our list. McKenzie is exactly the type of player we need.

Obviously thought better about drafting a talented kid with injury and attitude issues, instead getting someone who is not only reportedly a good kid but automatically the best kick at the club.

I would've been happy for the club to take a risk on Kav but am more than happy to get BMac. He is a definite long term player for the Roos.
 
Brad Scott sprouted when he came to the club he would be asking each prospective draftee whether they wanted to play for the NMFC. This kid clearly did not so we may have looked elsewhere from that point on. Whether our preference was for McKenzie or Kavanagh we will never know. Bit IMO the club is screaming out for an injection of pace to compliment the players we already have and the Kav is said to have this.
To rub salt into the wounds ( if there are any ) Demetriou is probably admiring the genius of the Kavanagh's in getting their own way in much the same way he lauds Scully's dad cash grabbing and that Juddy is an ambassador for Visy. When the hard call is required Demetriou is happy to look the other way. I would like toknow what actually would constitute draft tampering? Have we made it more difficult for our recruiters with Brad's initial comments in regards to wanting to playing for the NMFC.

There's your answer. We rated him higher than Kav and tbqh, Kav obviously isn't head and shoulders above this kid judging by his draft posi.

Wouldn't have thought so. There are lots of kids each year with the skills and experience to make them worth drafting. I am happy if our club makes attitude and character part of their decision-making.

Heard John Patten's old coach on the radio yesterday and one of the main points he made was that the kid just wants to play football and help a team, no fuss about which club, and that was a sign of the kind of boy he is. If the Kavanagh stories are half true there are warning signs about more than his legs.
 
Don't know the reasons why we passed on him or care, but am glad we didn't get Kav for obvious reasons.
 
We rated McKenzie—and possibly others—higher. Quayle and Jason Phelan seem to be the most in-the-know and both said we weren't turned off from picking him by the stuff with his dad. If anything, we would have been more concerned about his injuries, like many other clubs.

I wouldn't think a hamstring injury would be reason to not pick someone. Curran had a worse injury I believe.
 
wasnt just injury issues with kav.
also question about if hes mentaly up for it, miss the jets last month of footy with a corked quad

I thought Curran had a hotspot in his foot and Kavanagh had hamstring tendon issues?

Curran was also a later pick, so less 'risk' so to speak.

Everytime I hear Kavanagh's injuries mentioned I hear the phrase "ripped clean off the bone both times", doesnt sound like it was just 2 minor hamstring injuries.

We could of gone either way, but personally im happy with Brad, around the same level of Talent as Kav but no attitude problems (be they personal or parental) and no questions over his desire to play for the club.
 
we had pick 18. If he really was a top 10 pick like EQ touted then why did 7 other teams before us pass him over?

am glad at least one of ellis, docherty and bmac was still available at our pick
 
and by reports the Currans are a NMFC family....odd considering Curran senior played for the Dawks.
 
Apparently, it's because when we came to BMac's house for the second time and asked him why he thought we were here again, he came up with a correct answer: "Because you want to pick me". He isn't just an excellent kick, he also appears to possess above average IQ. ;)

Maybe they thought he wasn't up to it mentaly. Maybe they thought he was a sook. Maybe they thought his dad was a goose. Maybe they thought he didnt do enough on-field this year.

Or maybe they thought Mckenzie was and will be the better footballer. I think backing them over what a journalist might say. Their job is to sell newspapers and write articles people will read. They are not judges of football talent.
 
If Kav was as good as bigfooty make him out to be, he would have been a top 10 pick.

GWS didn't load up on KPP like many thought they would - they took plenty of midfielders. Kav still slipped despite this. Clearly, he's not Jesus Mach II, as BF would have you think. He's probably closer to Tom Swift Mach II, in which case, I couldn't be happier we took Brad instead.
 
It's quite simple. McKenzie is the HBFr in the exact mould we needed. We were just desperate for a player of his type.

Seems clear we selected for needs this year.

Currans grandfather was involved with North, not sure whether he played or was behind the scenes. But he is listed as a Life member of North'.
"Bat Curran." What a great name!
 
Could not have anything to do with Kavs draft camp results, he got 28/30 in the kicking test didn't he? So his disposal by foot seems pretty good under pressure.
