Wicket-Keeper

Of course, the main thing saving Wade is that in domestic cricket we don't have a wicket-keeper playing a good and important role in the middle order, like a Jos Butler or MSD. Nevill is the closest, but he's not performing the role in a manner that could be described good. We just have a bunch of guys like Hartley, Luderman and Paine who are thrown up and down the order. The selectors would be smart to advise their state counterparts to bat their wicket-keepers outside the opening spots in the forthcoming Ryobi cup....

It's not like there is a steady opening partnership currently, the opening spots are changing on a game to game basis because none of them have grasped the opportunities they have been given. If a keeper scores runs as an opener, why wouldn't they pick them as an opener, especially if Watto at #3 is going to be the way they roll going forward. Then they can play the explosive finisher at #7, complimenting Bailey and Voges at #5 and #6, instead of hiding Wade there.

Read the very first response I gave you: "I'm not a big fan of Wade" ... I have merely argued that your logic is flawed. At no time have I said anything in defence of Wade or tried to argue that he was in good form.

Do you not see the glaring issue with your logic? Bad form follows you in all types of cricket, but good form doesn't?? That's absurd - it has to be both or none. Personally I'd say that each format of cricket is a different game and form does not always transcend formats. Go back through the records and look at batsman such as Shane Watson who has had many bad spells in the longer forms, whilst often putting in a good performance in an ODI or T20.

One thing is for sure, you cannot use a mix of stats from ODI, FC, T20, List A, and Tests to form your analysis on ODI cricket.

The reason why good form in the longer form of the game doesn't always mean good form in one dayers is that players that score too slow in one day matches can cost you the game

But the form of a player trying to slog fast runs in an ODI or T20 translates to the longer form? It's got to work both ways or none mate.

I'm not fussed right now about his batting - he's shown he is capable at test level.

But his keeping is not up to the standard required. It is so poor that his batting expertise does not make up for it.
Correct Wade's wicket-keeping skills are too poor for international level.

Paine is the guy I would like in, but not sure his busted fingers will ever be the same. Technically a better batsman than many in our test team!

So Haddin isn't playing shield cricket to prepare for the Ashes?
Think he will miss one shield match, will still get two though. Not ideal but its the same preparation as Watson, Clarke etc will get so he's not the only one. Just the way the schedule works. His selection in the ODI team is very warranted IMO.

You could pretty much send any of the state wickies to India. Ludeman, Hartley, how can it really matter as long as they are better with the gloves than Wade?

Can someone please explain to me how Wade is in the current one day team. He is in really bad form with the bat and the gloves and I can't see why he is in the team. The commentators were saying it must be really hard for Wade at the momment being in the team when he is struggling so much with the bat and gloves. It isnt fair on other players that deserve a chance and it isn't fair on Wade to keep playing him when he is in this form.

Wade had to go, his form with the gloves has been declining for a while. he hasnt developed at all since making international debut. This is a bit of an indictment on the coaching as well.

He looks shot for confidence (probably from being dropped from the test team which i reckon he did not see coming). The one thing that gets me is when he first played T20 and ODi's he was a good hitter and scored quickly. But over time he has stopped playing the big shots. Not sure if he was instructed to do so or what but needs to go back and find form both with the gloves and bat.

Looks as though they want haddin for world cup now so any keeper in waiting has a while to figure his game out.

does anyone else find it bizarre that someone can take a catch like this and have such terrible fundamentals and do something like this?

Meh, that's an outfielders catch - not a keepers catch. Says nothing about his keeping ability. Ive seen fielders take many catches like that - without gloves.

As for his batting ability, sure hes made two centuries. But he was dropped first ball in the ton against the Windies. And dropped 5 times in the ton against the Unwashed.

The guy's confidence is shot. Will be interesting to see if he will fade into obscurity like Tim Paine or step up in the domestic comps this year.
