Another injury worry for Carey. Doesn't seem to promising as he is injury proned afterall.

My question is, will he last the whole season?
Don't worry about the Duck as AFC are just taking all precautions in the pre-season. He will play most games in 2003 & kick 50+ goals, mainly from FF. Also, expect him to play on beyond 2003. :D

Russell Ebert, a Power man through and through, said on 5AA this morning that if Carey plays at FF for the Crows he can see him kicking 100 goals for the season. As Kane said, they are wrapping him up in cotton wool until the season starts. While he will obviously play in the pre-season games, IMO he will only play part games just to ease him back into the swing of things.

He'll last the season ............ and 2004 ............ and 2005 ........ and .......

He will play majority of the games if he plays mainly as a FF. There was an article a while ago in sunday mail where club officials said that the deal has paid off already. The impovement he has brought out of the younger players and the dedication and enthusiasm he bring to the club has already paid the dividends.

He will last anywhere between 2 and 5 years. Just need to manage him corectly.;)

I voted "no" because I think he is getting on and injury proned. However, having said that, I wouldn't be suprised if he did kick 100 goals as he does still have talent.

cheers...

You can't expect Crows fans on the Crows board to be at all impressed with your opinion, particularly when you seem to think there is such a word as "proned" in the English language. There isn't.

Carey is at risk of being injured playing footy (or at training for that matter) as is any player on any club's list.

Carey is at a slightly higher risk that other players perhaps because of his age. The Crows are doing everything they can to minimise the risk while at the same time ensuring that he has a solid preseason. Carey sustained a hamstring strain at the end of the last training session of 2002, and is currently on a restricted program to ensure that is overcome.

What more is there to say about it than that, really?

The fact is this Carey will star:)He is the Michael Jordan of the Footy world he is the best and always will be the best,How many combacks has Jordan had????He is 40 yrs old and still scored 40 points in a game the other day and Carey is the same he has been out of the game for not even 12 months big deal they guy still knows how to kick the ball through the big sticks, dont try to put a dampener on what everyone knows is going to be a fantastic season for the AFC, I like every other crows supporter across the land cant wait:)Bring it on,the sooner the better:)

Im predicting he'll miss a few games but that'll be as a precautionary measure leading into the finals. Why play him under a slight injury cloud with the finals coming up fast?

But thats miles away...

Yes, Carey will last the season and beyond.

Stiffys right too, we have benefited from his presence already. There would be a lot of fringe players keen to impress the maestro knowing that they can be a part of history too (should the Crows be around in September) by putting in a huge pre season in order to be in the frame come selection time.

If having Carey hasnt "lifted" the bar during preseason Id be surprised

He's injury prone is he? He hasn't really missed that many games throughout his career. The last season he played he played most of the year. He did have an injured shoulder but played through it and that is now healed. He hasn't had any further concerns with that injury. The year before that he was an All-Australian. I don't really think there is any justified reason to be concerned with injuries. The Crows in recent years have managed injuries as well as any team. If we can keep Kane Johnson on the park then Carey should be easy.

Every team has injuries all the time. Missing a week of preseason is hardly cause for concern but thanks for your concern anyway.

I voted 'NO'.

Listened to Dermott Brereton talk about Carey playing this season, and made mention of the fact, that playing CHF is a position that puts a heavily demanding physical workload on a player.

He mentioned that historically centre half forwards that begin getting injuries as the seasons go on never really overcome them.

An example of this could be looking at Careys last few seasons with the Kangaroos where injuries - groin/shoulder etc seemed to restrict his input, and he never really seemed to get over them entirely. I.e. - they were always around in some "niggly" form.

All that being said, the X-factor here is that Carey has had basically 12 months off of the game. This should in some way negate the effects that I've mentioned above, in addition the likelyhood is he will play a lot of games at full forward, which is a less physically demanding position to play.

The title of this thread seems to be asking do we think Carey will break down mid season and be unable to play. I dont think any of it will be that dramatic as he had shown in the past a willingness to play through injury, but I feel he will miss half a dozen games or so throughout the season due to hamstring/groin/shoulder type injuries.

Three points:

1. You listen to Dermott?

2. Carey may not play CHF at the Crows. FF may be the go.

3. Carey missing only 6 games would be just fine. Carey playing 16 games in 2003 would be a vast improvement on output from Crows FF position in 2002.

I listen to anyone that talks football, and then decide for myself what does and doesn't have merit - based on personal experience, and what I have seen in football.

I think you will find I mentioned that I expect him to spend a lot of time at FF and that this may offset other concerns.

Agreed - no doubt Carey even if missing for half a dozen games provides options you didnt previously have.
