Fly said in his presser he thought it was fairly severe
Which is even more curious as to why he wasn't in a sling or iced up. If it dislocated and the popped back in then there is a chance that is structuraslly not too bad but there will definitely be soft tissue damage and swelling. Ice it! Support it!

He wasn't iced up or in a sling in the rooms after the match. The injury can't be too bad - maybe a couple of weeks?
Thought the same thing, why not iced up but reading up on disclocations it's saying 3-4 months or so.
Also that once dislocated it can recur. :(
Fly did say it popped right back but also that it was pretty severe, might find out more today.

There's a movement away from using ice.

My pure ignorance here, I thought dislocated shoulders, ya just wack back in so to speak, Ive had a couple (motorbikes), they just literally pushed them back in at emergency and said on ya way.
I think for you or I it might be the case (been the same with dislocating fingers), but I think in high performance they would probably want to ensure that the stabilising and surrounding muscles are worked on to ensure repeat and/or extreme damage, and that full control is regained. I would imagine that would be especially the case if the dislocation really strained muscles around it

A good insight into the way shoulder dislocations can become an issue is with Dunkley and McInerney at Brisbane. Yes, they can pop right back in technically, but the structural integrity is not the same. They can slip right back out much easier and as it keeps happening, the damage could compound.

Hayes is a very young player so I'd venture to guess that the club would prefer not to risk the long term inregirty of his shoulder this early in his career, especially considering he looks to be a genuine forward prospect at the Pies long term. Surgery might be necessary to ensure it properly heals and regains integrity.

Agree - GCS didn’t take any risk with Rowell in his first season, and went straight to Surgery.

Football medicos tend to take the long time view. Hawks did it this season with Day who could have had 4-6 week of strengthening the area.

Has there been an update on Will? Meaning do we know the extent of the injury, and if there’s a chance he’ll return this year?

Some posts have referred to him possibly needing a shoulder reconstruction- but we don’t know if this is required.

Hope it’s not.☹️

It looks like we're taking 3 possible picks into the MSD, which suggests that they're hoping Will will be back this season.
Let's hope that is the case - I really like this kid.
