As you know, club cricket usually kicks off the week after the grand final. Was speaking to a mate who said that he will not watch the grand final and will play cricket instead. I reckon he'll almost be the only one who will want to put cricket ahead of the game.

I won't be playing that's for sure. What about you guys?

Dont think ill have a choice, round 1 of the premier cricket season will go ahead unless the pennat commitee move rd 1 or we get a wash out.

Our league had already called off the turf games for next week and were going to make a decision on the synthetic this week. Hopefully the draw today helps make their mind up, otherwise there will probably be a few forfeits.

I'm sure as hell not.

I was just looking at the fixtures for the Premier League and there's a game scheduled for Punt Road...surely they'd move that.

I would not want to. The board of the association I play in are meeting this Wednesday, as some of the ground arenn't in good condition anyway. Here's hoping they make it a one dayer on the 9th!

Haven't heard anything from the BCA yet, but i'd imagine most club sides will struggle to field 4 or 5 teams next Saturday.

Any word on the district/premier cricket for rd 1? Ive been told that we will be playing saturday rd1 - sunday rd2 the following week. PLEASE be true.

this from CV

Opening Round of Victorian Premier Cricket Season to be deferred Cricket Victoria has today announced it will push back the start of the 2010/11 Kookaburra Victorian Premier Cricket season. The Pennant Committee, Cricket Victoria's overseeing body for the competition, circulated advice to Clubs earlier today that the first and second rounds would be staged back to back on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October. Commenting on the decision, CV Chief Executive Tony Dodemaide commended the Pennant Committee on behalf of the Board of CV for their swift action and sensible conclusion. "It is a pragmatic decision, recognising both the impact of the replayed Grand Final next Saturday, and also the extra breathing space for local Clubs and councils to recover grounds to suitable condition for Premier Cricket after a particularly wet winter - the first for many years," he said. "Despite the extra onus of a full weekend of cricket on the 9th and 10th, we believe on balance it is the best decision for the benefit of all our stakeholders. "Our hundreds of players and volunteers throughout Premier Clubs will no doubt be interested in the events at the MCG next Saturday, but our collective relationship with councils and especially their ground curators is also crucial to acknowledge and protect. "The additional week will make life easier for them, and that is equally important to us."
