SUNDAY 17 SEPTEMBER, 2006
SENIORS: 1st PRELIMINARY FINAL @ TEAC Oval, Port Melbourne
Williamstown vs. Geelong starting 2.10pm

Match will be shown on ABC but with no AFL football in Melbourne this week it is a great chance to get along and see some football. It is sure to be a great days football so i urge everyone to get along. Admission is $16 for an adult, $10 for pensioners and concession card holders and free for children under 15.

MY TIP
Williamstown by 20 points.
After defeating the Bullants in the first week of finals Williamstown, thanks to an inspired performance from Magpie youngster Dale Thomas, moved through to the Preliminary Final while Geelong had to battle it out last week with a 4-point win against North Ballarat ensuring they progressed to the Preliminary Finals. That win came on the back of 5 goals from Kent Kingsley and he again looms large this week. If Williamstown can hold him they should be able to progress to the Grand Final.

i think we might just have the edge in class here.

i wasnt deceived by willy's first up win. preston had a bunch of regulars picked to play for carlton, willy had one dale thomas coming back from injury.

DT will not be playing this week, and i think thats going to make a big difference.

Teams:

Williamstown

B: McKenzie Walker Anthony
HB: Stanley J. Cloke Toovey
C: Rowe Br. Johnson Greene
HF: Lloyd Lawry Picken
F: Iacobucci Cox Williams
R: Richards Pendlebury Davies
Int: Nicholls Stretton Meyer Langlands
Tallis R. Cook Fanning Rose

Geelong

B: Sheringham S. Hunt Slade
HB: Callan Spencer Koulouriotis
C: Batchelor Byrne Gamble
HF: Gardiner Playfair N. Ablett
F: McCarthy Kingsley Grima
R: Blake Prismall Stokes
Int: Davenport Clarke Trenfield West
Cheep Cook Varcoe Owen

Hopefully McCarthy will be a late withdrawal again. All 6 blokes named in the forward line are 190+cm, it's ridiculous. A team with some half decent runners will smoke us. I've watched a fair bit of VFL this year but no Willy games so I don't really know what to expect.

Hopefully the cats can win this one, but I'm not too confident at our tall forward line. Hopefully stokes, varcoe and gamble and a few others can go up there throughout the game

How often does a team lineup they way they are named? Not alot. I think it'll be more like.
HF: Batchelor, Ablett, Gamble
FF: Varcoe, Kingsley, McCarthy

Playfair and Grima in the backline. Gardiner in the middle.
Sometihng like that so they have even number of tall and smalls.

Williamstown should win it in the guts. Geelong really only have Cook and Byrne who will put their head over the footy - Willy have a huge advantage there. Can they stop Geelong running by forcing stoppages and choke off supply to the forwards? Once it is out in space the Cats have the edge.

Yes, Grima will go back again but the point is that we were carrying one too many talls last week so adding McCarthy on top of that unbalances the side even more regardless of where they line up. West will only play his 30-40 minutes off the bench giving Blake a chop out as well so we are basically 2.5 players down.

i watched the geelong-north ballarat game last week on t.v and that's the kind of footy you want to see in finals, though geelong made a few bad mistakes.i hope that this weeks game will be close, contested footy because thats the way finals should be.i feel so isolated in tassie coz its harder to follow the vfl unless they screen non tassie games on abc, which they dont.vfl is definately good.:thumbsu:

Cats will be ready to go, and breathing fire after losing to the Seagulls in their last encounter as well as after accounting for NB in a thriller last week.

This will be a really good game. Williamstown are a good unit.

Williams marks for Williamstown and kicks it out on the full. If he had of kicked a goal it would have been 5 goals in 6 minutes for the seagulls
