Had nothing to do today so I thought I would go and get myself a bout of the flu, and what better place to do that then at Point Gellibrand.

Stupidly cold and windy there, the wind played havoc with the skills (or lack of) of the players and the score of 11.15 vs 5.20 in Williamstown's favour is very understandable.

Anyway, we seemed to want to win more than Box Hill did, although Box Hill kicking 0.11 in the second quarter with the gale didn't exactly help.

To put it simply, one of the worst games of football I've ever seen. Despite the conditions, the skills weren't even close to AFL standard by any of the players.

Pies listed players
15 - Chris Egan - Was ok, did some nice things, probably not enough to get put back in the 1s. Copped a knock in the 3rd quarter, looked like a corked thigh but did eventually come back on very late in the game.

16 - Scott Pendlebury - I'm sold on him, had 19 possessions (was listening to SEN all day so this is where I'm getting any stats I write) and gets his way out of trouble remarkably easily. Looks very, very classy.

19/21 - Ben Davies - Copped a whack behind his ear at the end of the first quarter, hence the jumper and number change. Did some useful things in the midfield and seemed to get better as the match wore on.

28 - Danny Stanley - Passable game, nothing special.

29 - Ryan Cook - Useful, but wouldn't say he would be in the best players at all.

30 - David Fanning - Was beaten by Simon Taylor in the ruck pretty comprehensively, was alright around the ground though.

31 - John Anthony - Copped a bit of a hiding early on from Tim Boyle, but after that looked the goods. Certainly does back himself and wouldn't surprise me to see him play seniors this year.

33 - Cameron Cloke - Pretty ordinary game to be honest, although the conditions didn't suit him at all, his timing was all at sea for marks and ruck work all day.

34 - Jason Cloke - Very good game, not sure if it will be enough to come back into the side or not, but these conditions were tailor made for him to just spoil, spoil, spoil all day.

38 - Adam Iacobucci - Came into it late in the game a bit, moderate game, got a bit of it.

39 - Heath Shaw - Probably the best Pies listed player, had 29 possessions, absolutely flogged Harry Miller all day, disposal, run, and talk was there all day.

40 - Brent Hall - This might sound weird, but he played key defence all day (in between rotations from the bench depending on Box Hill's forwards) but he really had nothing to do all day. So much so you couldn't even rate him, the ball didn't go near him or his man all day.

44 - Daniel Nichols - Set the game alight with two contested marks in the forward 20 metre zone in junk time (Which was where he got the two goals). Has a dip and got a fair bit of it.

53 - Julian Rowe - Was pretty good, disposal seems to have improved a bit, if he plays a few more like today in this manner he should see his way back into Collingwood.

62 - Chad Morrison - Very good on a half back flank, the ball followed him all day, must have got about 25 possessions.

For the rest, Heath Lawry was our only tall target up forward, he kicked four, Willo kicked two, as did Steven Greene who was BOG, Brett Johnson kicked the other one and he was pretty good as well.

And here's a typical Jason Cloke mark...

Jases marking has improved greatly over the last couple of years, rarely drops one, shame you dont have a pic of his last qtr hanger :p

Oh and one other question, where was the cold? I found it sensational and not cold at all, couldnt even keep my jacket on for long, well untill the last qtr

I was basically at the complete opposite end, hence no photo of it!

Yeah first half wasn't too bad, I was sick of it by the last quarter though, stupidly windy.

Maybe because I was sitting down all day I was colder though.

(kempo) sam iles didnt play, was rested this week.pretty sure he isnt injured.

i presume cox and toovey played willy reserves anyone know how they went?

We were absolutely rubbish bar Boyle, McGlynn and Kane.

Davies, Rowe, Shaw and Morrison tore us apart.

Pendlebury will be a good player.

I saw Stevie Greene put his head over the ball for the first time in 6 years and get a free kick in front of goal, gave me a giggle.

Cox and Toovey played 2's. Cox ripped us up with 4ish goals.

Thanks Mikey.

In my stats sheet I have marked Text Walker as 'VFL Res' - anyone know if that is true or was he rested?

So Tex has finally found his true level in football

Its a highly sought after position - he had to wait for BillyMorrison to leave before he could claim his rightful spot.

(actually he's struggled with ankle injuries all 2005 and all preseason so his preparation is limited)
