Wireless Interference

I have had a lot of problems with my previous modem, so I got a new one, a Billion 7800NXL. However I've found a problem with interference.

I've relocated the modem well away from the microwave and its not interfering. However my stereo system, located within 1m of my computer is interfering with the network, and I think my PS3 is also interfering. I recently changed the channel of the modem to 9, and works ok, but still makes my modem run at ridiculously slow speeds when running my ps3 or wireless speakers. Today, turning on the speakers definitely dropped my wireless network.

The solution today was to change the channel to 6, after turning on the speakers, and it sort of works, but this is a pain in the ass.

I'm not buying a new modem, so what are my options now?

I guess it pisses me off that we get sold this stuff, when there are clearly problems with interference

your stereo system and your PC need GTFO of each others way. you have wireless speakers, your stereo system is just flooding whatever frequency they communicate at (and probably others). and given they are 1m or less apart your wireless network card is just getting flooded.

putting your modem near a microwave probably wasn't the best option.

your PS3 will cause no problems, it's wireless is shithouse. don't know why but it's a known problem.

do you have a wireless home phone, if so is a 2.4 or 5 ghz system. that can interfere too.

your original modem was probably fine. so is the new one. move your computer so that your wireless card isn't just flooded by signals from your stereo.

Yeah we moved the modem to another room, so the microwave isn't an issue. I might try moving the wireless unit for the speakers to the back of the room
