A good balanced way to go IMO is to initially pick our best 24. Then rest 6 of these players and give 6 of the non- best-24 a crack in their place.

That way, if the game is tight, you can sill have a pretty decent 18 on the park.

At the end of the day, the key word is BALANCE.

Clubs use it as a membership drive or to raise cash or to test plans or players.

I would like the AFC do 2 things...which make sense hopefully.. I would like them to try and go as far as possible, as I feel that exposure to some kind of pressure is better for young players than country games against teams devising game plans.

This is a year the crows could utilize that winning mentality, if they get 3 to 4 wins and show some good form before round one vs. west coast this should give the club that jump start to attracting around the 45,000 mark instead of 30-35,000. I feel the club and Neil Craig would want to get off to a few wins to show us supporters the club is for real this year and last season was just a hick-up

Exactly...play our best side IMO....if the youngsters are in that best side - then fine.

One good thing about this year 50% will be youngest any way. But not the real young ones

I can see where your coming from and as I pointed out I would rather a few WC matches than country cups..but having said that I am sure like many that NC would rather winning form in September through planning and moulding in March, than winning early creating a false sense of importance and hope.

Its an old saying but its true .. March champions mean nothing

Understand what you're saying but I think the point is that the Wizard Wok is probably incidental to the process.....first priority is to play good opposition on good grounds getting plenty of coverage - and winning....if we end up with a satellite dish at the end of it then fine......personally - I would like to see us using the WC to set up for Round 1....using playes who have a realistic shot at playing in the real stuff.

I think Craigy will go down this path with a group of say 30 players, of which there will be a pricipal core number and a few rotating according to performance.

He has stated that he has a different style of play to last year that he wants played, and to do that it needs a continual basis to work with - and that's the players most likely to play in Round 1.

Just not used to seeing him in one, but agree he looks funny in a bag of fruit

Yeah, we should play our core players & with an extended bench give some our fringe youngsters a taste (on a rotation system, as we should not play them all at once).

I think your right - seems to be a strong Blight influence with some of his views.
Expect some kids to be trialled early - but your right in that I think he will go with a core group.

Will he be playing to stay in the competition, inbed the new gameplan, or get gametime into young players?

IMO not even a question about it.

He'll be totally concentrating on imbedding the new gameplan before the season proper starts.

Not that our previous gameplan of playing through the hot dog stands on each wing was shyte!! ;) :D

I know its old news now, but there was a noticable change in gameplan over Ayres years with the club.

I hope now that he's bringing talls into the club we keep a long kicking style with, as you say, less hotdogs ;)

Sometimes at the footy I thought I was part of the gameplan we were going so wide.Wonder how much my match payment would have been :p

Kane what would be your starting line up for the first round of the Wizard Cup against the PAPS??

This is the team i'd like to see first round:

FB: Bassett Rutten Hart

HB: Torney McGregor Reilly

C: Goodwin Ricciuto Doughty

HF: Johncock Perrie Hentschel

FF: Edwards Welsh Burton

Ruck: Clarke McLeod Thompson

Interchange - Van Berlo, Krueger, Meesen, Bode, Jericho & Last spot a toss up between Watts, Mattner & Schuback

I didn't choose Begley & Stevens for obvious reasons but if they're 100% fit i'd include them. I added Meesen as our back up ruckman just to give him a go in the Wizard Cup to see how he handles it & Van Berlo & Krueger cos basically i just want to see them play!

If we win first round maybe chuck in Maric, Knights & Gibson as Kane said on a rotation basis cos we can't play them all at once.

What side would everyone like to see run out for the first round of Wizard Cup??

I know its boring without the footy, but how can anyone at this stage of the year choose a team for the Wizard Cup

Ladhams could train the house down and be achampion
Rutten may add 5Kgs and be too cumbersome
Hentschell may have a brain fade

But really we have absolutely no idea of who is going to improve, stand-up and fall aside - impossible

All i asked was what side would people "LIKE" to see run out.

I'm just keen to see what mix of players people want to see play in the Wizza Cup.

On other threads people are already writing what side they want to see for round 1. Why not The Wizard?

Is this a credibility thing as raised on another thread...Had Kane & Stiffy did this would you have said the same thing?

FFS !

I would like to see the round 1 Wizard Cup side set up exactly the same way as the Round 1 proper side (which I posted on another thread) because I believe the Wizard Cup is about setting up the side for round 1. Gratuitous games for youngsters who are way off the mark is a luxury we cannot afford ATM.
I want to be fit and firing come round 1..........and the only way to do that is to work toward your best side no matter whether you stay in the WiZ comp - or head to the country.

Check my posts - I do not post any of these phantom sides anywhere - complete waste of time IMO. ;)

What people want to see run out is based purely on historical data, not the present - and a gap of 6 months in a footy players life is a long long time.

Riddler, I would like to effectively see our best team play (getting ready for round 1) BUT would like at least 2-3 youngsters given a go. Examples of players I would like to see include Krueger/Smith/and possibly the most ready of this years draftees - Knights or Gibson perhaps as their bodies look ready for AFL

How about you? Experience or try out the young lads?
