we all know we need to improve in the ruck and the last couple of days i have been thinking, what if Wood takes the centre bounces and Fraser goes up forward and then straight after the centre clearance Fraser switches up with Wood in the ruck then Wood goes up forward?

i think this setup could do some damage knowing that Wood is a pretty good tap ruckman and can take a very good contested mark but is poor around the ground & Fraser is poor tap ruckman but is very good around the ground. Do you think this may work?

however this can only happen if wood has a massive pre-season.

Fraser can stay fit all year and Wood can improve we will go very close to Top4

Agreed with that. Fraser is hardly ever fit, and seems to be on of those guys that really really struggles when his not fully fit. He gets a pretty harsh rap on hear a lot of the time but when going is a passable center bounce ruckmen and very good around the ground ruckmen.

Wood needs to improve his strength aggression and fitness and should be fine.

One major postitive is that Josh has entered the off-season injury free. Which hopefully will translate into a full pre-season.

Let's hope Cam gets his butt into gear and gives it a real go also. Showed enough to suggest he coould be a factor next year.

I tell you though, if Carlton gets Warnock, I'd throw everything and the kitchen sink at Hampson.

Ive always thought Fraser should be in the fwd line. He can kick goals and take a grab and provides a X-Factor in there. Wood should be given 1st crack next season in the ruck, the only way he will develop is game time. Its not like we are winning in the ruck anyways so may as well let the kid develop in there.

I have said it before in another post. Fraser has been our "saviour" since he was drafted at 19. I think that we have burnt him out to the point he needs to be our second ruck for a few years. Hence I want us to drop Bryan and pick up Jeff White. Maybe the game has passed him in the centre bounce, but it hasn't around the ground. He still moves well and can give Fraser and Wood the time (Fraser) and guidence (Wood) they need. Everyone thought that King was outdated but he has done some wonderful things for the Saints.

No he hasn't. He's been distinctly average.

Would still be an upgrade over Bryan, though.

i think that Chris Bryan is a better player that wood

LOL You are a funny man.

After the last few games I have a new nickname for Bryan, BSB!

Everytime he got his hands on the ball he would have a Brain Snap and just bomb it to the oposition. Absolutely useless. I really hope that MM did not instruct him to do that. :thumbsd:

Honestly the ruck isn't really a problem with Josh fit. There are barely any sides with decent ruckman. Ottens and Blake maybe, but that's it. And Blake is pretty average. The real strength has to be midfield depth.
Really with a good injury run we can snatch it, but we really can't cop any injuries.

But if you look at the last 3 years 14 wins, 13 wins, 12 wins, then there has to be question marks over players that don't perform consistently.

The stand out thing of the last 2 years is the incredible high proportion of games where the team looks listless and flat. That has to be the major concern with the club - is the pre-season a problem, and is the week to week preparation wrong?

rose jam, are you serious? Granted you need a gun midfield, but it doesn't matter how good they are if the ruckman is not able to palm it down to advantage. The reason Hawthorn killed us in the mid is because Campbell continuously put it down Mitchells throat. Watch the second game and you will see what I am talking about. Also, everytime we went forward in that game, they continuously went for the boundary because they know they will win the contest. If you can not win the ruck you might as well have 4 mids in there and not bother with a tall.

Good midfielder's make average ruckmen look good Hawthorn's mids dominate us because they all charge through and win with strength.

Blake is a shitful ruckmen and was beaten by Richards last year but it doesn't matter. Outstanding midfields make average ruckmen look good in the same way elite ruckmen make good midfield's look superb.

We need a better tap ruck and better ball winning mids.
