Toast Woosha - Underrated Coach

Sadly, I still think the team doesn't adapt quick enough to in game situations which is something Woosha has to wear.

I've heard Worsfold address this in an interview, I think around the time we were going man on man regardless of the circumstances. He said something like "How do you know the move you make will lead to better results? You could make the move and it wont make any difference. I prefer to back in our players/structure".

I like him as a coach but he is a shade conservative. He never says anything to the media, and really let's seniors play despite form being awful. took him ages to drop Lynch. I think we have better options than A Selwood. We didn't really give Browny a decent shot up forward and Stevenson never even got to fire a shot.

Have heard the same, and I don't agree with the sentiment. It means we basically need to be dominant and flexible in all areas of the game otherwise oppositions find something that works and we get hammered by it. A lot of the times the quarter it happens in can make all the difference to the game.

See recently: Hawks and Adelaide games.

I can't really argue with the others but Brown clearly isn't a forward any more.

Being his sponsor, I've watched him closely in every game he's played as a forward this year and he doesn't even have a feel for how to get to contests or how to hit them.

Trust me, I was hoping like mad that Brown would be a revelation as a forward this season.

Our match committee is way to conservative.

With Woosh, my main criticism is he takes far too long to make a change.

Remember Booma Harvey having 30 odd first half possessions a few years ago?

This sort of thing is what I'm talking about

I can't believe the Victorian press came out with this. He has been the no. 1 coach in the league since Malthouse retired. Absolute legend.

I feel as though the two main teams I follow - West Coast and Arsenal have similar coaches.

They are somewhat stubborn in their approach, but it's more because they have an eye for talent a brain for tactics and they let their players do the talking on the field. There are rarely rash moves made on whim, it's backing the talent on the pitch to stem the tide or make the play.

I like that about both coaches/manages, I just hope that 1 team wins something soon, it's been a long 6 years, but good times are near I can feel it.

He actually frustrates me, but at the same time you can't argue with some of the things in that article.
And GRANT THOMAS of all people talking him up.. would you believe it.

I've never warmed to Worsfolds robotic dry humour in interviews, but it's the fact that sometimes in games that need to be coached during play he will just sit there blankly. I'll be thinking.. "Um yeah worsefold... you gonna man harvey up or?" and he just does nothing. It's like he's ruled out in game coaching since we stopped pulling the Hunter trick.

^ Thats all ignorance though i guess. Who knows how much coaching goes un noticed.

Brad Ebo favourite for Ports fairest and best? Oh lord. What a dynamite club.

Well I agree on him and the MC being conservative at team selection with a couple of players (ASel I'm looking at you) the faith he shows in many other players makes it okay (see Masten and Emac, even Schoey).

I sometimes wish our club was a bit more open and part of that is Woosh, but really you can't help but love everything about him.

yet we came close to winning that game

Swan had 38 (approx) possessions against us when we played them at the MCG and we only lost by 3 points

you can shut down 1 player all you like, but there's still 21 other blokes that will play their role

You realise coaches will sit down before the start of off-season training, decide on the structures. Then, at the start of december they will begin teaching the players the structures and tactics to be put in place, give various talks and presentations about said structures, then hit the field for the next few months doing specially designed drills to practice the structures. The coaches then watch the players as the drills unfold, and the footage from training, and examine whether this structure is unfolding as it should be. Players get feedback, and the cycle continues. Pre-season matches roll around and the structures are put to the test in these practice games, and players again receive feedback as to where they can improve on.

but if the opposition kick 3 goals in a row, abandon ship.
