Work to do: Murphy

CARLTON midfielder Marc Murphy admits the Blues will have to work on their kicking for goal after they almost threw away what should have been a comfortable victory over Richmond at the MCG on Thursday night.

"Our inaccurate kicking early cost us a bit, but it was a good response from the guys in the end to run over the top of them.

"You can't kick 2.8, like we did in the first quarter, because it gives teams the chance to come back at you, which they did."

Well obviously if we play like we did last night against Collingwood in round 3, I'll have cowardly walked out by 3qtr time. :( Sorry true believers, I just don't have the fortitude like some of you to sit through a 10 goal loss against Eddie's master race.

Having not a single recognised KPP on the ground after half time didn't help matters. Hopefully Jamison, Bower, Henderson and Watson will boost our tall stocks for the game and Waite will neither be concussed nor suspended.

Kicking for goal requires confidence. Conceding 6 goals straight is a lack of confidence. So I'm not sure it's just a personnel issue. Sustaining a resilient never die attitude is part of the challenge we face in moving up the ladder.

he's absolutely right.

Blues will get slaughtered against decent opposition if we repeat last nights performance

In agreeing with Azul, Mr X is dead right. Well agreed. :thumbsu:

this has been a problem for Carlton for bloody years.

Too many dodgy kicks for goal playing as forwards. Walker, Waite and Hampson are suspect shots for goal. Betts can be shocking too at times.

Not sure what frustrates me more... Our kicking for goal, our kickouts from fullback, or the fact that we have maybe 3 players that block and shepherd. Tired of seeing all our boys fan out screaming for the hand pass while the carrier gets run down.

Anyway... Bit off topic there. I dont think walker will ever become what people expect of such high picks. I think he can contribute 3 a game though and he could be a great foil for Henderson. He could suit the lead up forward role quite well IMO.

That's funny they were praising us for been the most accurate team last year. ..

Didn't we have the best % for goal-kicking accuracy last year, though? Not sure what the exact stat is or how it is formulated, but whatever the case may be, we clearly aren't the worst in the league.

FWIW I believe that stats in Aussie Rules need an overhaul - so many meaningless numbers that are completely useless for analysing the game.

I'll take 60+ from 1AW anyday.
