Australia Day is overatted, especially the fireworks. Why people would travel somewhere, and either camp out hrs before the fireworks start to get a good vantage point or get there late and have to squeeze yourself in somewhere, and then have to endure traffic snarls, all of which are much longer than fireworks themselves.

I piss on events like the Skyshow.
Right I will remember that whenever I see somebody actually doing that in public.

You're a disgrace

Bah. Australia Day?!?!

I worked New years day at 8am-5pm hungover! Thats alot worse than this mickey mouse holiday.

blah, Collingwood supporter. You work every public holliday with a hangover for just being a Collingwood supporter. :)

I always work in the morning on Australia Day - taking photos.
Today I worked from 7.30 to 3pm.
No extra pay rate or anything. It's just the way it is in my job.
I will be taking this Friday off for the Big Day Out though.

Who says i am anti-social you *******? Fireworks aren't my thing, and i have also gone out when i can, despite me working now, to catch up with the fellas from school. Pretty anti-social hey?

Probably one of my most enjoyable Invasion Days in a long time.

Had some great friends over for pizza and beers, watching the fireworks from the balcony.

What made it worse was i got to work and discoevered because im a delivery driver some bureaucratic crap means i dont HAVE to be paid double time, and infact only get paid an extra $1.50 per delivery. That means for 7 hours work on a public holiday i got a WHOLE $12 extra...as i did 8 deliveries.

bah, thats screwed:(

Geez EKA, that does suck!

A similar thing happened to my sister over the Christmas break, she agreed to work Christmas Day then they were short staffed on Boxing Day so she said she'd work that too, then they said something about giving her a day off the next day in lieu of Boxing Day.....this sounded wrong to her so she asked if she would still be paid for Boxing Day even if she took the other day off and they said yes - then when she got her pay slip it was just like she thought - they paid her for ONE public holiday! I think that sucks since she called to make sure of what they were offering and they lied to her!

Oh well what can you do......
