Anyone got any tips or anything would be appreciated I spoke to STA TRAVEL and they were pretty much no help whatsoever
did the old working holiday UK visa few years back... wasn't too much a hassle, just had to fill in the form online, submit, and set up an appointment with the british office to get your bio-metrics done, and fill in a one or two other paper forms that you send off to canberra along with your passport and fee
passport/visa comes back in about a month
only issue is that the british office is not in all cities... people in adelaide have to go to melbourne to get it done, which is a bit of a joke
i suppose things could be a bit different with the Tier 5 visa

What do you have to do? I got a work visa for Germany about 3 years ago and it was a piece of cake... Sent a form with basic details, my passport and about $10 iirc to the embassy, a few weeks later my passport came back with the visa no problems.

I got my UK working visa (tier five, Youth Mobility Scheme) a fortnight ago.
At first, yes, it does seem daunting with heaps of hoops to jump through, but it is really quite simple:
Follow all the instructions on the British Border Agency website, fill out the forms, book an appointment with the agency in your nearest capital city, get your biometric data recorded (finger prints, photo) at the appointment, they will give you a couple of forms with information. Then, you send your passport, a current passport size photo, proof you have £1300 in your bank account and a self addressed return envelope (can't be registered post, so I used a Platinum Post bag). I received my passport back in two weeks and six days, complete with two year working visa.

Im in the process of getting a work visa for Canada. It doesnt seem too daunting although it appears we have a pretty good relationship with them.
I just need/needed to sign an application form, obtain my criminal record (which takes the most time to get), the photo page from my passport, 2x passport size photos and my traffic history report.
Hoping to have it all sorted in the next 2-3 weeks!

Canadian working visa is the easiest one to get. Takes 5 mins online and a few fax's and your done, plus its two years you can roll forward indefinitely until your 31.
Every aussie should do a ski season if they can!
From the people I've spoken to who have worked there (Americans usually), it would seem that every Aussie has done just that

I too want to know this. In a couple of years I'll have a Bach Civil Engineering and want to leg it out of the country immediately to the States, preferably New York.
Can't see to many companies willing to sponsor an inexperienced engineer, so a working visa is my only real option for the time being.
Best bet is the E3 visa need a job offer for that, and the job offer must be a degree level job (or require significant experience in that field) company must also be willing to submit a labour condition assessment for you. Need an aussie passport too...
E3 aside - options are pretty limited...

I have a US Passport and can't get a decent job. Unless you are an Oct Therapist (which they are crying out for btw) the odds of securing a US Visa right now and probably for the next 10 years are next to nil.
