I know it's not the best way to rate players but whoscored.com I think it is had him as one of the top rated midfielders of 2014. Probably due to the high volume of tackles & interceptions he has to make playing at a poorer side than all those mentioned.

He's had one great season in a 13 year career. If he was so amazing he wouldnt still be a Palace.

Good player, not World Class.

Current form he is :D

Just think people are expecting these 'world class' players be the top, top, top players in the world.

What I'm more getting at, is there 3 "world class" players or is there 20 or so floating around the world?

Well....to have a "World class" team you need at least 11.

Messi and Ronaldo cant play every position on the field.

As others have mentioned, its hard to pin the term "World Class" on a specific number. As a rule of thumb the player would be expected at a minimum to be in the top 10 players in their position in the world, probably closer to top 5.

Jedinak isn't in the top 10 for his position in the World and certainly isn't in the top 5.

For example, if you had a choice between Yaya Toure and Mile Jedinak, who would you pick? That's the standard you are looking at for "World Class", are they on par with the absolute best in the world?

OK, at last. We have something to gauge the term "world class" on.

In saying that, you can have more than "5" world class in any one position though.

In theory you can as long as they are comparable (Ronaldo and Messi aside).

For example, Hazard is the definition of a "World Class" Winger/#10.......Alexis Sanchez is comparable. They would be a like for like swap (with different skills but still the same ability)

But you wouldn't say Hazard and Stewart Downing are of the same level, even though Downing is having a great season. Hazard is just the much more talented and consistently better player.

Yaya toure is heavily overrated. Man City plays much better without him (see final 2 CL games in group)
I think that has more to do with us playing 5 in the midfield and 1 upfront without Yaya, than our usual 4 in the midfield and 2 upfront with him.

Don't think he's had two many great or even good champions league games in the past few seasons, but we ask too much of him tactically IMO.

So why do Man City even have him if he's a liability to their formation against the elite teams?

He's not bad for the other 40 odd games a year. Besides, if we were signing players based on champions league performances we'd have quite a few out the door.

Wow, really?! Yaya is an absolute beast of a player and is almost impossible to contain. He gets up and down the pitch, dribbles past everyone with ease and strength, can score from anywhere and is a very cultured on the ball with the ability to play that killer, defence-splitting pass or spray it everywhere from deeper. It's no coincidence he's been named Africa's best players on, what, 3 occasions(?) and is often regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.

Agree as well that it's often City's formation that means they get overran in midfield against the better passing teams in the Champions League.

It's hard to pin a number on it because you'd say there are a significantly higher amount of world class forwards right now than defenders. I doubt anyone could name 5 world class left backs (or right backs for that matter)

Total bollocks! I'm not a Man City supporter, but the bloke is a deadset star, the best midfielder in the Premier League and unquestionably a world class player.
The trick is not to reply to KC.

He wouldn't start at Bayern and maybe Madrid.

He's a far more prolific and consistent scorer than any of their strikers, and he can adapt to systems as he's shown in multiple roles under Ferguson, Van Gaal and even ****in Moyes. He'd be up front for both teams and he'd flourish - his goal sense and positioning is first class.

I'd take both Lewandowski & Benzema over Rooney at the moment.
