World of Warcraft = ??? bandwidth

It's 3 days into the month and I've somehow managed to use 10GB of my limit, last month (and most other months) I'd be lucky to use 20GB for the entire month and that's with 3 people using computers.

I found out today that someone installed WoW and they told me the download was quite big, but that was 2 days ago and today it's gone up 3GB again.

Could the game be the only reason for such a huge jump in usage? I'm starting to get worried that someone has hacked into my connection or something, this is ridiculous.

If you're using a wireless router, i'd strongly recommend you put a password on it very quickly if you haven't already, as anyone within close range of the signal (ie. neighbours) can freely access your internet connection and eat up the download limit til their hearts content.

Yeah we do have a wireless router but also already have a password on it, changed it last year actually just to be safe.

Does anyone know how big the WoW file is with all the patches etc? I just Googled it and read that it can be around 9GB to start the game. **** me is this serious?

Yup.

A chunk of those would be all the content patches.

My Wow Folder with all expansions is about 19gb

my wow folder is 18.8 gigs, assuming he installed the game with discs for the classic, BC and FT he would have downloaded 2.01 gigs worth of patches.

my wow folder is about 18 gig as well keeping in mind I haven't played or updated for almost a year.

Found wow only ever used about 2-3gig a month if that through actually playing it patch day is a killer though

wow dosnt use that much downloads, and i have 2 ps3's my pc and a laptop on my network and yeh still fine, check background downloads, or the other people at what there downloading / youtubing ( uses a shitload).

btw what server / faction?
