Worst afl player you've seen (and why)

I must admit though, Jones has certainly improved during his time at Carlton, McCartney just couldn’t play him right. Chris Mayne was pretty bad when he was at Fremantle.

This is actually a shocking take. An average footballer at AFL level maybe but smart and can play multiple roles with a very good left peg. Part of some of the best sides of the modern era.

Cale Morton, Mark Bolton, James Walker and Zac Dawson etc were genuinely crap.

Dawson also in some very good sides and smart and only average at AFL level.

Tory Dickson.
Really hope you're trolling as this is a ridiculous nomination.

He kicked 50 goals in 2015 and 40 goals in 2016. Very accurate kick for goal as well. Yes, he has declined in the last couple of seasons but he was a very solid forward for the Dogs. Should be nowhere near this thread.

Worst players last decade in Starting 22 format that I can think of.

B: Bower, Dawson, Surjan
HB: R. Clarke, L. Jones, T. Hunt
C: Morton, Joseph, Mackay
HF: McQualter, Vickery, Castagna
F: O’hailpin, Butcher, Folau
Foll: Cordy, M. Jones, Rischetelli
I/C: Bootsma, Polson, Eddy, Boekherst

I might have missed a few.
That's a terrible post

Plenty on there are more then capable.

I can remember a few at Port Adelaide;

John Butcher
Simon Phillips
Jimmy Toumpas
Jack Watts
Darren Pfeiffer
Mitch Banner
Steven Salopek
Andrew Moore
Jason Davenport
Tom Logan
Paul Stewart
Nathan Lonie
Michael Pettigrew
Nick Lower
Greg Bentley
Brad Symes
Fabian Deluca
How about the ones who couldn't get a game....

That list is stupid.

Liam Jones (any tall idiot can be put in the back line, play loose and punch the ball).

Zac Dawson.

Jason Laycock.

Josh Hill.

Robbie Warnock.

Jesse White.

Matthew Taberner.

Jarrod Witts.

Jason Castagna.

Ayce Corey.

Levi Casboult.

Nathan Broad.

Chris Masten.

Sharrod Wellingham.

Josh Bruce.

Sam Lloyd.

Jordan Roughead.

Brisbane drafted some shockers in the early-mid 00s. Jason Roe brings back bad memories.

Cheynee Stiller somehow making it to 100 games just shows how threadbare our list was over those years.

Was also our FF in the Adelaide elimination final in 09...he was a total embarrassment that night...

In fairness, so was the rest of your team in that game.

Gotta be kidding with half of these?

The last 3 alone are horrible nominations.

The fact that names such as Jordan Roughead, Masten, Rischitelli, Josh Bruce, Sam Lloyd, and Matt Taberner have been raised (along with others) either leaves no faith in humanity or the quarantine is simply getting to everyone's heads.

All those placed are either good or decent. At the moment I especially rate Taberner.

Watch the games people!

No offence mate but there are some terrible calls in there.

Jarrod Witts? You realise last season he became just the third player ever to record 1000 hitouts in a season (and the only player ever to manage it in the H/A season)?? He is also the captain of his club, just won their best and fairest, is in the top few rucks in the league and is in the argument as the best player at his club. No where near this list.

I'm pretty sure Josh Bruce averages more goals per game at AFL level than anyone on your entire list?

Sam Lloyd just won his club's goalkicking, etc, etc.

Either this was a (poor) troll or you may need to try again I reckon. Whilst the above are not superstars, the standard for this thread should be much lower.

Captain doesn’t mean they’re a good player, Ben Stratton exhibit A.

It’s a subjective list and it’s the worst I’ve seen as per the OP. I haven’t seen many Suns games and the ones I have, Witts must have been particularly poor. I’m not going by stats as that’s not what the OP requested.

No, it doesn't. But, together with everything else I listed, helped paint a picture of a player that adds plenty to his club and is nowhere near a list of worst ever player. He just broke the record for most hit-outs in a season FFS.

I'm not going to take the bait on Ben Stratton who was a very good player and many considered to be unlucky not to be All Australian (as a player who regularly shut down talls and smalls) at his peak. Richie Vandenberg probably a better Hawthorn example.
