Geelong 2008 lucky to have shat the bed or it’d be a no contest. An average home and away losing margin of 86 points is obscene.Well played

Relative to the season. In 2016 there were 6 teams better placed than the WB. So it’s pretty clear.Dogs finished that H&A season 15-7 / 115%.
Richmond won the flag the next year with 15-7 / 118%.
So not quite that clear.
Eagles had to beat an MCG tenant team at the G that year. Anytime a tenant team gets beaten at the G it’s highly deserved.Eagles 2018, Bulldogs 2016 and Sydney 2005 are the worst

Eagles were missing Sheppard too who was a great defender in 2018. 3 of their best players out they were a great side.
Hard to fathom such a scenario honestlyId rather a perfect month is September than dominating all year then shitting the in September like us in 2011

They did the football world a favour but you'd struggle to find a more underwhelming premiership team than that on paper? McGovern and Kennedy aside that team just screams meh.
I think people are underrating that list because of how badly West Coast have fallen off since 2021. They were very good players back in 2018. And like they said, heros for denying the Pies a flag. There is 5 other All Australians in that team beside the 2 you named. Another 3 in Naitanui, Gaff and Sheppard missed that game.
Might be 'meh' to some, but it was a deeply talented list
He was our best FB at the time by a mile. Barrass stepped up alot but make no mistake, Mackenzie was a MUCH better footballer. If he played that 90 more games he would be our best FB of all time for sureEric Mackenzie the forgotten man of 2018, was a more than handy defender for us.
Will Schofield the lucky person to get a game after Sheppard and Mackenzie went down, and played his best ever game in the gf as a result
Didn’t you get belted by Melbourne week 1 then stay in? Shocking finals system.Yeah right.
1998 - had to win 4 finals on the road including the GF.
It’s happened a few times against the pies hasn’t it?Not many teams win a granny from 5 goals down.
We'd historically struggled at the MCG against good sides, but one stat that many forget is we won all of our 3 or 4 games there that year, beating Hawthorn if I recall, and of course the Pies in round 17 for the first time there in awhile, which is better remembered for Nic Nats unfortunate injury. There was a confident never give up attitude which I think began in 2017. The EF vs Port is imo one of the greatest finals ever, not just cos we won. Only final I think thats gone to double overtime. And of course the way we weathered the adversity after all the dramas and injuries.Eagles 2018, Bulldogs 2016 and Sydney 2005 are the worst
You only played carlton there that year then the pies in round 17 and them again in the granny. Hawks was at Marvel. But no it did look like one of two small outsiders might pinch it, it looked like Richmond's flag all year. The 2018 prelim one of the biggest finals upset because of just how one sided that game was.
Ah. I went to all those 3 but forgot Hawks were at Marvel. Still felt good to beat them in Melbourne. You only played carlton there that year then the pies in round 17 and them again in the granny. Hawks was at Marvel.
First win against them in melb since 2006 good omen that was for you. Pies win at The G was your first against us there since 95. Jason Ball got the winner with 20 seconds left.Ah. I went to all those 3 but forgot Hawks were at Marvel. Still felt good to beat them in Melbourne.
It was a good team but you dodged a bullet in avoiding the Hawks in that finals campaign.Hurts me to suggest it but when i think about the drawn qualifying final and the quality of the premiership teams prior to and following - the Pies 1990 premiership side may be one of the poorer ones.

Yes I was surprised when I heard that stat, given our h2h is pretty even. We played you at Victoria Park a lot in the 90s, and also Docklands since it was built, so not as many games at the G as you'd expect. Wasn't that 2006 game at the MCG? We were 1st and you guys were 16th. At the time it really felt the MCG was just always going to be a big psychological obstacle.First win against them in melb since 2006 good omen that was for you. Pies win at The G was your first against us there since 95. Jason Ball got the winner with 40 seconds left
In a way winning a less likely flag should be cause for more celebration. Like I imagine many Geelong fans felt they had one hand on the flag and it was for the taking in 2008. Had they won it it'd be in the same category as the 2000 Bombers among AFL premiership sides.I'd be more than happy to see Carlton claim this most dubious of titles! A flags a flag. Once it's in the books it's in the books.
