claim a regular spot in our 22?

Nothing to do with Ottens or anything, I was happy with the trade, but my brother and I were arguing. I reckon he would struggle but my brother seemed to think he was a shoe in.

What do you guys think?

Battling it out with:
Ling
Bartel
Ablett
Chappy
Corey
Kelly
Enright
Wojinski
Tenace
Byrnes
and Now Varcoe and Prismall

for a spot, coudlnt really see him in the team.

What makes you say that? He was a regular in the AFL before we traded him wasn't he?

Not really - played off the bench and was down in the pecking order - if he was still at Geelong he would still be down in the order.

He'd get in ahead of Byrnes I'd say. And that's not to say I don't rate Shannon.
That's questionable - I do rate Moloney ahead of Byrnes, but Byrnes is a) played for his speed bursts and is arguably more valuable that way and b) Byrnes is not in our best 22.

Would be borderline on current form.

He would have had to continue to develop to be a "shoe in". Maybe he would be a slightly better player had he stayed.

Still I wish him all the best. Would have been great to keep him.

Moloney would play in our best 22 in my opinion. That being said, I'm very pleased with the Ottens deal, despite having to give up Moloney for the draft pick to deal with Richmond.

Don't get carried away guys. Moloney would play in our side for sure. He would be ahead of D Johnson, Byrnes, Tenace, Prismall, Wocjinski. He would be the equal of Enright. If you don't agree, just think if you tried to trade any of the above guys I have mentioned would you get a first round draft pick for them. Doubtful.
After 1 win, some of you are starting to sound very arrogant.

Enright is twice the player Moloney. I would expect supporters of others teams to underrate Enright but not its own supporters.

I agree with Byrnes, Tenace, Prismass & Wocjnski though.

Agreed Moloney is not Enright. But he is also a couple of years younger. He would be playing at the moment though.

I also agree with the trade quote from Jack. Nobody would be willing to give away a first rounder for those mentioned. People need to realise that it was Byrnes best game for the club on Saturday, and Tenace is just starting to deliver what Moloney offered in 2004.

Lets not get carried away. This week will be an entirely different contest.

I was beginning to be impressed with Moloney at the end of 2004 and thought he was going to be a good player for us. That said, he still had (and has) plenty of improving to do. He's got one aspect of his game down pat - getting the ball, running hard for 10-15m and kicking it 50m+. There are other aspects of his game that he really needs to work on (e.g. defensive side of things).

It's hard to say whether he'd be in our best 22. Disagree that he's better than Enright. Enright would easily fetch a first round pick and is a far more complete player than Moloney. Moloney would probably be ahead of Tenace and Byrnes though but I'm not sure that this will still be the case by the end of the year.

I also read this quote. If you meant it to apply to Enright, I disagree, if you didn't I still disagree because I think Enright's better than (not just equal) to Moloney.

READ THE QUOTE

Nothing said about being BETTER

He's certainly not equal. I'd rather Enright any day.

But remember the deal that was going on. We had to give something to Melbourne that was accepatable. They wouldn't want Byrnes DJ, we wouldn't be offering Kelly, Ling, Corey, Enright, etc. Tenace would not have been allowed. It was the deal that Melbourne would accept and the Cats could afford to lose. And at this stage all clubs involved will feel that they have a win.

Richmond will regret not taking Moloney and a pick instead of the two picks.

Tenace is the only player I could see Moloney starting ahead of off the bench - as Jim Boy said Byrnes isn't in the 22 yet.
