So now EAFL?
Eastern Australian Developmental League.

The EAD League for short.

Don’t be stupid - we will always and only ever be in the VFL. Never forget the game belongs to them. It’s not a merger, it’s a complete dismantling of the NEAFL with the AFL sides invited to join the VFL

Canberra Demons shafted - at least Southport and Aspley can go back to the QAFL I suppose.

It’s also going to be great when the AFL sides from Victoria top their teams up with seasoned veterans while we still top up ours with academy kids

Unless you've got some inside knowledge, all NEAFL sides are invited to join, not just the AFL teams. Canberra can join the VFL if they want. Southport has said they want to join the VFL. Not sure about Aspley's plans but I wouldn't be surprised if they move back to the QFL.

We only get to top up our teams with academy kids because of the rules of the NEAFL. If we're in a different competition, different rules apply.

I was going off this article

Which has a screaming headline talking about the Demons of ...
Club killed off without notice as AFL ditches entire competition in massive footy revamp

Oof, that's a serious bit of clickbait with that headline. For starters they're really Eastlake, and will continue to be regardless of whether they're in the VFL or AFL Canberra league so they definitely aren't killed off. It feels like Fox went early rather than actually check what the plans are for the stand-alone clubs.

https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/a...d/news-story/3d28a6769bff0fadef258689005e694b refers to the standalone clubs potentially joining the VFL, even with a Canberra focus. Southport is definitely intending to join the VFL pending cashflow - https://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.a...e/news-story/5496e4b6fd1fac8444b1c4eb752fc260

Giants win Practice match against Freo

Player Summaries by Luke Kelly

Jackson Hately

"Jacko had another strong game inside. He gives us good contest around the ball and is able to help us with his hands around it. He runs all day and it was a solid performance from Jacko."

Sam Jacobs

"It was a funny day where we had to ruck our two rucks against each other. Sauce got first hands to it for the majority of the day which gave our mids (and their mids) good first use. It was a good performance."

Tommy Sheridan

"Tommy started well and was amongst it against the old mob but unfortunately his day was cut short with a hamstring injury mid-way through the second."

Tom Green

"He is continuing to develop as a strong inside-mid for us. We know he's clean and he brought that today. His work inside was really good and he continues to learn his patterns away from the contest defensively and offensively."

Isaac Cumming

"It was a good return from Cheese. Again, a credit to our rehab guys that every guy that comes back hits the ground running. Cheese was really good early, he gives us great drive off half-back so it was an exciting return."

Zac Langdon

"Zac was lively up forward for us and nailed some big tackles early. He brings what we know he can to give him a shot at AFL level."

Matt Buntine

"Bunts was really good. The backs had to deal with a bit of a wind early and they were really organised and he led the way in terms of his aerial work. Another solid performance."

Zach Sproule

"Sprouley kicked four, he doesn't miss. He takes his chances when he gets given them. He works hard all day and it was good to see him get some reward at the end of it."

Matt Flynn

"Flynny was good. He continues to develop in his ruck craft and his ability to get involved around the ground is really growing which is pleasing to see. For a big man, he's able to throw his weight around which is really pleasing."

Jeremy Finlayson

"He responded really well. He obviously missed out last week and had a chance to respond today and did so in the right manner. He was lively forward, competed really strongly in the air and defensively he created turnovers for us which was a real highlight today."

Xavier O'Halloran

"X continues to develop on the execution part of the game. He gets plenty of the ball and he outworks his opponent to get there. He's continuing to develop on putting in a complete performance across all aspects of the game so it was another positive step in his journey."

Nick Shipley

"He's adding some real strengths able to play multiple roles at half-back and wing for us and wherever we throw him he's played to a good level. He continues to keep growing in his use of the football and today he took some positive steps. We know he runs hard and competes all day and today was no different."

Connor Idun

"He had a really good match-up against Jesse Hogan who is obviously an AFL-calibre forward. He was courageous in the air, he competes strongly in the air and on the ground and he keeps getting better and better every week. He's turning himself into a hard defender to play against."

Jake Stein

"Each game he keeps raising the bar in his performances. Today in the air he was as strong as he ever has been, which we know is a real strength of his. Him and Connor have got a really good partnership down there at the moment which is helping both of them."

Jack Buckley

"Bucks was superb after an interrupted last two weeks and the first chance at some footy, he was outstanding. His work-rate never drops, his tackling at the moment is first-class and he puts his name straight back up there for AFL."

Callum Brown

"Browny was really pleasing. Due to numbers and circumstances, this week he found himself at half-forward. He just finds the footy and he just goes to where the footy is. Thankfully with his speed, he gets there a bit quicker than anyone else. He was really pleasing today and he used it incredibly well. A great step for him."

Sam Reid

"Another one returning off a long rehab stint who just covered the ground all day. It's hard to replicate the contact and change of speed in rehab and today he got that and completed it at an elite level so I'm sure he'll put his hand up over the next couple of weeks."
