Saw it last night.
Expected a pretty good movie with Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) directing and boy did it exceed my expectations.

A fantastic prequel and some great performances especially from James Mc Evoy and Michael Fassenbender (Inglorious Basterds)

Thought it tied in well with the X-Men movies and i enjoyed the 2 cheeky cameos.

Definitely deserving of the rave reviews it's getting.

9/10

Yep McAvoy and Fassbender are brilliant. If this wasn't a comic book movie they could both be up for awards attention. Very well acted all round really.

It did drag a bit for the first hour for me. The Magneto parts were excellent and I was kind of just waiting for them in between. But when the stakes were raised it really picked up and the last half hour was excellent. It's definitely set up for a sequel that I very much look forward to. Good to hear Vaughan say he would only add one more character for a sequel, hopefully a villain (and hopefully Mr Sinister).

Really really enjoyed it - particularly the Professor X and Magneto. Well acted, generally a good script (there were some holes - really around the lessor mutants such as beast). Loved the feel of the movie though - the carefree feel at the start and the really dark start for Magneto. The back story of Magneto is almost worthy of a movie of its own.

Darn good fun, and also serves to solidify Fassbender as Daniel Craig's natural successor as Bond. Which is a good thing.

McAvoy was equally excellent. Look forward to seeing what Vaughn does with the follow-up.

I hope not he's on fire with his performances at the moment. It would be a step down in the quality of movies he's been in lately.

Laughably bad. Just a stupid, stupid movie. I wanted to leave halfway through but my friend wanted to stay.

Only good thing was the cameo.

you shouldve. i reckon people who detest the movie theyre watching should vote with their feet. life is too short these days.

personally i loved it.

think the next x men movie is Origins - Magneto yes?

Saw it today and loved it. Everything about it was great, except the minor quibble that they tried to cram a bit much into the story and some characters suffered.

First Class is a hybrid of the Origins: Magneto film that was rumoured for a long time, and a 'teen' reboot set in modern times. It was a good decision IMO because as compelling as Magneto's story is, I don't know if it could've held a whole movie.

Care to explain why you think this?
The writing was terrible. Often things would happen for no reason, with no setup, and no logic behind them. I'm not talking about superpowers - I love the first X-Men and many superhero movies - I'm talking about people's motivations not being justified, and things just being lame or silly.

Banshee was a ****ing joke. It just looked stupid.

The whole 'recruiting' thing was almost like a parody of recruiting montages in previous movies.

Some - no, most of the lines were idiotic. The characters themselves appeared to be of low intelligence (Mystique especially) due to the things they said to each other. It was just terrible.

You going to have to give at least one example regarding the terrible writing. I'll agree on the recruiting montage not being great but I'm not sure what happened for no reason.

Was it just me or did Fassbender lapse into a bit of an Irish accent towards the very end of the movie? He acted superbly though along with McEvoy, thought it was pretty decent and about what I was expecting.

My only real annoyance with the film, one which is rather banal, was Havocs haircut which resembled Simons from The Inbetweeners, definitely not a 60's era hair do!

Thought Kevin Bacon was rather solid and thought his German and Russian was rather convincing.

Lol'd at Jackmans cameo :thumbsu:

banshee looked like ron from harry potter.

the bloke who made tornados was interesting. nice suit and was never creased or ruffled.

actually, it wouldve been better had we got to know the villains more.

recruiting couldve been extended, extrapolated and fleshed out a bit more.

can you explain terrible writing a bit more. i have no idea what you mean. was it poor grammar, incorrect use of words/phrases?

Probably a result of the rushed schedule. Guessing they ran out of time to touch up the ADR.

This was a problem for me too. When I looked at him, I could only see a modern-day teenager. And did people say "Whatever" in the 60s?

It was very well done. Almost as though he were saying "No, I'm not doing this one. Now **** off and leave me alone". But it does present one small problem with the continuity IMO, as in the original XMen neither Charles or Erik know who he is.

Yeah I saw it last night. Had high hopes for it and I must say it was a dissapointment. I just felt underwhelmed. Not enough happens for me. Didnt like Kevin Bacon. Felt that was a big mis-cast.

Completely agree though with the praise that Proff X and Magneto are receiving, they were great.

First half was awesome, second half underwhelming but I'll forgive it for getting a little cheesy as it had to be done 7-8/10.
Interesting, I thought it was the opposite. Besides the Magneto parts the first half was lacklustre to me. The second half really had me going though.

Loved the nazi stuff at the start, the boat scene, the bar in Argentina IIRC, about to the part where Magneto choked Diamond chick, it was pretty dark. The second half was too cartoonish, cliche training their powers scene (except for prof.X and Magneto), Banshee looked crap, the Magneto 'reveal'. Thought the first half was Batman Begins, second half was more Batman and Robin :p.

I can definitely see what you mean. I wasn't big on the training stuff but I really enjoyed the final battle. There was just so much set up, the first 1hr45min was basically the opening. Just wanted a bit of superhero movie action

The scene in Argentina was the best of the whole movie though, besides the geographic fail.
