Saints mop up all Hawthorn's draft failures.

spud of the highest caliber. How any recruiter thought this guy was going to be pick 2 and was taken at pick 3, unbelievable. He's just got nothing to offer.
Can't see how he would get a game on any senior list. If everyone around him isn't doing there thing he's terrible.

Have I made myself clear!

Handy depth player.

Funny you know, for all the shit Hawthorn gives Richmond for the Franklin/Tambling draft, I'm sure some Hawks would love the 05 Draft back if they could.

Imagine adding Pendlebury or Thomas to Hawthorn right now.

Skillful, useful, handy player but certainly hasn't lived up to expectations due to his light frame and injuries. It'll be interesting to see where he is in 2 years time to see whether his body has held up or not.

If you sent him to Arizona for 7 years, he might get over his injury problems.

X can play, when he's managed to get his body right he's been a very good player for us (see 2008 finals series).

Personally don't hope we trade him.

He's as vanilla as they come. We bloody dodged a bullet not drafting him with pick 2!

Haha, remember the shit we copped around here when we overlooked this spud? Derek Hine you ****ing gun.

I'd take him in a Simon Buckley type draft situation though. In all honesty, I'd prefer Xavier Ellis in the team than Buckley anyway.

No way.

I laugh at him every time I see him play (usually at Box Hill now) as he was taken 2 picks ahead of some bloke named Scott Pendlebury.:p:o

Yeah and People called us Stupid on Passing Ellis.

Though to Ellis he was a Very Highly Rated Kid who never got his Body right after he was Drafted.

Has Great Skills but Body never developed

always interesting to compare phamton drafts, this was matt burgans 2005 effort

#1 - carl - Marc Murphy
#2 - coll - Xavier Ellis (Dale Thomas)
#3 - haw - Josh Kennedy (Xavier Ellis)
#4 - carl - Paddy Ryder (Josh Kennedy)
#5 - coll - Dale Thomas (Scott Pendlebury)
#6 - haw - Shaun Higgins (Beau Dowler)
#7 - ess - Mitch Clarke (Paddy Ryder)
#8 - rich - Beua Dowler (Jarrod Oakleigh-Nicholls)
#9 - bris - Grant Birchall (Mitch Clark)
#10 - freo - Damian Drum

#13 - wc - Scott Pendlebury (Shannon Hurn)
#21 - coll - Travis Varcoe (went 15) (Danny Stanley)
#23 - coll - Sam Gilbert (went 33) (Ryan Cook)
#37 - coll - Max Bailey (went 18) (Jack Anthony)

i would be happy for us to take on ellis if the price is right, could come into a running defender role once neon and bj move on, would rather him that buckley.

I don't think it's fair to call him soft. I think he's actually quite a couragous player. He is very skillful and can accumulate possessions.

His major problem is his body. He hasn't been able to string long periods of good football together because something always breaks. It's also why he hasn't been able to pack on nearly as much size as someone like Pendlebury has in the same timeframe. This has a compounding effect of reducing his ability to compete on a level playing field, and also makes him more injury prone. It's a little sad, but I don't think he'll ever reach his potential.

Hawks would be mad to get rid of him, and I think they should spend a good 12 months packing on muscle and getting his body right for a proper crack in 2013 onwards.

I would never ever ever take a player from Hawthorn. If they trade, it's a sign that the player has either a long-term injury or they are mentally unstable. The last decade has been littered with players traded by Hawthorn and who go on to make successful starts at other clubs...... but then the mental or physical breakdown occurs and the second club has to pick up the pieces. Meanwhile, Hawthorn has escaped all the stress of managing the player and gets valuable draft picks.

It all started with Brereton. He finished his proper career with the Hawks and then went on to be a dead-weight for Swans and for us.

Trade with anyone except the Hawks...

Why would we want an injury prone anorexic that can't get a game at Hawthorn

Apart from that his only claim to fame is a decent 10 minute patch in the third quarter of the '08 GF after a horrible first half....

If you sent him to Arizona for 7 years, he might get over his injury problems.

Lol...

Was going to reply simply with 'er...' but perhaps if we do have 7 years to spare...

No thanks.

Was surprised he went so high in 2005 having seen all Gippsland's U18 and championship games live. I actually recall him having close to 40 one day, Gippsland's opponent kicked something like 17 behinds and they credited Ellis with kicks for the kick-ins :)

Skillful player no doubt but so glad we got Pendles and Daisy from that team! :thumbsu:

Anorexic , enemic soft outside player. Nice skills though.

This guy can't get a game with a club that lives of players like this..outside, uncontested queen with good skills.

Pass.

the guy is a receiver town material, he holds onto the ball for an eternity, and then just does the sideways chip pass across half back - so comically not up to AFL standard
