We don't know how quickly he'll step-up to the pace of AFL, but based on his style-of-play he'll be right up there with a shot. Previous nominees and winners have bene guys with a lot of flair, and guys who can turn a match. Palmer was obviously just a workhouse (but an exceptional one at that).
Yarran is the sort of guy that will bob up with three flukish last quarter goals to win you a match. I expect he'll definitely be top five.

I'd give him a very good chance of winning the rising star award. Given that he has already played senior footy in Perth, you'd have to think he would play most of the year at AFL level, has that X-Factor that is eye catching, and he is just a darn good footballer.

I don't buy the part about a midfielders award. It just so happens that no forwards were better than the winner in any particular year.
That being the case, his supposedly laconic demeanor and lack of fitness will likely lead to him being conceived as lazy, at least early on.
I doubt he'd have the tank at present to play more than a few minutes here and there, but I'm hoping he's given the occasional run through the midfield instead of being kept up forward full time.
And Don't You forget itMitch Robinson might win it. Looks like being the steal of the 2008 draft.

No freaking way am I counting out Robo. Fella will be a gun. Gun written all over him. If this Buddy draft ever gets done then I shotgun Robbo.

IMO Robinson is a great chance, wonder what odds are on the rising star ATM.

I honestly think Yarran may struggle in his first season.

You only need to watch Yarran's WAFL highlights package to realize the guy is a serious talent. Playing small forward at AFL level is one of the hardest of all gigs though. He'll show moments of brilliance, and probably struggle with consistency in his first year. Understandable. The Rising Star is more about quantity of output, rather than pure talent - hence the last 2 winners. I suspect Robinson has both these bases covered though.

Rich dosnt have the tank Palmer did.
Some third year talls look value if they can stay fit and on the park.
Out of all betting types, pre season rising star must be very close to the one most in favour of the bookies and least for us punters.
Stay away from it this early on, and the field looks to be more wide open than ever with many good draftees this year and many good ones that still qualify drafted in the previous 2 yrs
