Hey guys,
Im a blues supporter and im getting excited now, if injury permits we're in for our first real shot for a LONG time.
This young guy Chris Yarran, i havent heard much hype or anything about him so i thought i'd ask the people who really know our list, so what can you tell me about the way he trains, plays, acts, his workrate, anything.
I've also got him as a chance for my supercoach team. So will he play this year or is a development player? Hopefully he isnt cursed with the Number 6 pick theory.
Thanks guys

From what I have heard... currently at training, he's not putting in the hard yards & looks lazy so to speak.
have also heard when he does put in the effort (in game) he is silky smooth.
That's all I know, & before he was injured last friday night, from my point of view... he didn't seem to do much either. But give the kid time to settle in & get the feel for the man's game instead of the under 18's or such. it is still early & plenty of room for improvement. :D

edit.... not everyone is a Mitch Robinson & goes hard from day 1 :)

Lazy, soft, unaccountable, shirks the issue at training, doesn't tape his ankles, mummy's boy, too fat, doesn't get the ball often enough

We should've picked Ziebell or Rich or Vickery or Mckernan or Sidebottom :o

And all this after 10 mins on the field

"He's indigenous ... therefore .. I like him!!!"

IMHO i beleive we should have taken Rich, we as a club are not in a position to potentially waste a top 6 pick on a guy who is no guarantee of making it. I hope im wrong, but the safer bet would have been the way to go at the moment.

The safer bet is the guy who was supposedly a lock at number 1 at one point and then slipped to pick 7? Must be a reason why 5 other clubs passed on him too. Not saying he isn't going to be a great player but shit, let them prove or disprove themselves before you get worried.

Who would Rich displace from our midifeld rotation?? How would that help with our offensive options.

It's like this, Animal:

Yarran was the biggest risk yet possibly the most talented in the draft:

Cons: Ziebell and Rich would have been much the safer bets.
We all knew this well before seeing recent matches.
Perceived as lazy and having a small tank.
Not really capable of playing outside a forward flank right now.
May take some time to develop.

A player that will need "TLC" and support from within and outside.
Are you discussing a young Buddy Franklin or Chris Yarran?

You forgot to log in as Kruzering. :thumbsu:

I liked what I saw from Yarran in the half a quarter he played...

Took a terrific contested mark and put in two chases to nearly run down Brent Harvey after forcing Pratt to get rid off it.

Didn't look lazy after he chased for 30 metres.

So you are saying that Daniel Rich is guaranteed of making it?

Honestly, some of the crap that comes out of your mouth is just that.

Idiots....have ou even been down to training and had a look??? More to the point have you attended every training session and seen everything that Yarran is doing behind close doors??

I sure haven't.....it is impossible for players these days to simply not to put in at training. He mightent look that sharp every session because he is 18 and coming to terms with the workload that is required.

Also I'm pretty sure I read in the Rhys O'Keefe article that first year players are only doing 70-80% of training in an attempt to stop injuries such as, op etc.

How about we wait and see how he performs out on the ground for a few weeks then make our assumptions. It's not even round one ffs he needs to get atleast 3 or 4 practice games under his belt, young kids can't just go out there and play at the intensity required for AFL Football without match practice behind them.

And Rich...why would we take Rich, he's ganna fit into a midfield rotations is he with Judd, Hadley, Murphy, Gibbs, Scotland, Stevens, Walker, Betts etc etc. We need to develop blokes who can kick goals. He only needs to touch the ball 5 or 6 times and to kick 2 or 3 in his first year...then he will progress from there. Do the names Eddie Betts, Andrew Lovett, Leon Davis ring any bells...it takes time for players to develop a tank that allows them to play as a forward midfielder, but once they do they are match winners.

Get off the kids back and answer Animal's question....what are his strengths / weaknesses on the field?????

Watched him a fair bit at Swan Districts, IMO will either be a superstar or the next Damian Cupido. Has all the talent in the world and can do the almost impossible then the next minute drop a simple chest mark.

Risky pick but probably a risk worth taking. Will be very interesting player to see how he goes over his career.

After Carlton's 2011 Premiership, I foresee a spate of graffiti attacks across Melbourne from youths adding an N to signs pointing to the Yarra River.

This is from Nov last year:

Chris Yarran is an exciting midfielder/small forward from Swan Districts who is a bit of wildcard in this year’s National Draft. He has shown glimpses of brilliance in games which is worthy of a top 10 pick, however he has also at times shown that he may not be up to AFL level which makes him a risky pick.
Height: 180cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: Forward/Midfielder
Club: Swan Districts
Who we think he may turn out like: Leon Davis
Who we hope he doesn’t turn out like: Ashley Sampi

**** me: LEON DAVIS, if that is the best case, I wish we never picked him. - Lazy dog who gives you one great quarter every 4 - 6 weeks!!!!!

Of course it is way too early but I just don't like hearing about laziness on the track. Perhaps it is one those things that plagues the most talented, everything comes easy to them so they shine against other kids on the way up through the ranks.

We've coughed up picks just to get Warnock and our choice in Yarran will be scrutinised heavily. Not convinced at all. I hope I'm wrong.

If we had picks 6, 9 and 20-odd we would have taken Yarran, Robinson and O'Keeffe, I hardly think we've coughed up picks for Warnock ;):).

Player comparisons are limited.....would you be happier if we compared him to a Burgoyne?? I can see Davis similarities but I also think he'll also be a bit silkier and more polished, so somewhere between a Davis and Burgoyne.

Besides when we already have an exciting and a-grade midfield core, why not put some polish on it with an exciting offensive option??

Framing effects distort judgments and decision making: the dangers of making calls with limited or skewed information.
