I was looking through the paper this morning, and came across an article about a local punk/rock band, YIDcore... they take traditional hebrew songs and "punk" them up.. a lot... they also have some originals.. pretty good stuff, especially cause i've grown up with these songs all my life.

check out the mp3 if any of you are interested.

Good stuff.

I like it a lot, have got the Adam Slander EP very funny and it's most certainly something you can bop along to.

I think they have a song Happy Hannukah - saw the film clip on [V], not bad! Might check them out live when I get the chance.

Punk Rock Hannuckah is about the Jewish identities at of punk. Including Brett Gueriwitz guitarist of Bad Religion and Fat Mike (I think).
Yidcore have been black-listed from Channel V because of thier behaviour when they performed live. All I heard about this is that the V presenters said they smelled like s*** and made a mess in the toilets.
If you like punk covers you should look into Me first and the Gimme Gimmes if you haven't already. Their latest album is called "Me First And The Gimme Gimmes: Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitvah" which is actually played live at some kid's bar mitzvah. They screw up the songs a fair bit since apparently they only had 3 days to practice the new songs. Two of the songs are traditional jewish covers (Hava Nagila and a different version of hava nagila).
