What the hell is this? What happened to Tim Rogers, master songwriter? Slowly, after #4 Record, he's moved towards a flatter, more straight-ahead rock style. Deliverance, at least had some colour, some variation, some soul. This is kinda generic rock, the sort of thing a lot of other bands could do - "Explaining Cricket" is a keeper, but after two spins, not much else jumps up for repeated listening.

Can I have the Ray Davies-inspired Tim Rogers back? Who's this guy writing endless songs about drinking and growing up and appearing on Rove with Jimmy Barnes?

I'll give it another couple of listens, of course, but so far, a bit of a letdown.

Gotta say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. Most of You Am I's early stuff was rock rather than the soulful stuff he did on Album #4 and Hourly Daily. Love the new track "It aint funny..". & "A nervous kid."

In all honesty I'm glad they went back to the straight up rock stylings that got me hooked back in the early 90's. I felt there was almost too much fluff and in the end it hurt the band.

If anyone's ever been to one of their live gigs (albeit The Falls in 2004) then they'd know if there's any Aussie band that anyone knows how to rock it up it's Tim and the gang. I love it when he goes off.

All in all so far a fine effort and a welcome return to form in my eyes.

Agree thoroughly with posts two and three.

Do you have the bonus disc version? That is not a bad freebie at all.

You know I thought that was the version I bought last night but when I got into the car I realised much to my dismay I had grasped the wrong one. I must learn to be more careful. Mind you I also bought The Who's best of, The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Snow Patrols new albums so it's hard to keep track at times.

You may be right! Will have to go home and check it again. I could not place the intro when listening to it last night.
