That wont help will still be traded or cut at years end.

Thoughts

Philips has obvious problems with his size, but he's 18 and the club obviously likes what it sees (and we've seen glimpses of why in the last four weeks). Will be retained next season.

At this stage the only definite departure is Williams. Spriggs is very likely, as is Matthew Davis and probably one of Chambers or Erickson (I expect Shaw will get another year). Mathews will be looking over his shoulder and it wouldn't surprise me to see Willoughby ask to be traded. Vogels is a chance to walk, although I certainly hope not. I suspect Schmidt will stay now that he's finally broken through.

My tips:
Williams (r)
Spriggs (d)
Davis (d)
Erickson (d)
Mathews (t)
Willoughby (t)

Would like to see Chambers go, but I don't think it will happen. With Philips elevated, that leaves us with a chance to pick up Everitt/another senior player and three or four draft picks.

RE:Philips

Will be interested in how his form will go back in the seconds my thoughts would have to finish of the year dame well. Roosy has givin the lad a go and just hasnt performed and with that it wouldnt surprise if he was traded or cut from list at years end.

Nows thats alittle harsh dont you think. Hopefully he will go back in to the seconds and cut it up must be reminded its hard coming on and of the bench and for the game time he has got hasnt done to bad for a small first year player. Will get good game time back in the seconds which he then will be able to focus on playing four quarters of football.

Yeah, Auskick hardly gets any game time, he needs to go back to the seconds and fatten up a little. I love Auskick.

He would have to perform outstandingly

So no the fact is he will be delisted. Maybe traded if a club would want him of which i doubt.

Let me guess, you played with or against him in junior footy as well?

Philips seems to be attracting outsider heat that is far out of proportion to his actual impact in AFL footy.

Can't trade Phillips because he is a Rookie List player, so its likely he'll be kept on the rookie list for a second year or even moved onto the senior list fulltime. He just needs more time in the gym to bulk up before we can really make any proper judgement on him.

If we get Everitt, I think Chambers will go to make space for him and as for the other three spaces we will need to make room for on our list for draft picks I think we'll dislist Spriggs and trade Willoughby, to go with Willo who of course has retired. Ericksen and Davis were always going to be long term projects and as we always need depth in our ruck and key positions stock I think both might get another year each to prove themselves, considering both were drafted a year earlier than expected.

As for Mathews, we would all love to see the back of him, but come on do you really think that would happen????

Can't see clubs lining up to trade for Willoughby - three years on a senior list and not even a sniff of senior call-up. If any other club has some interest they would just be able to pick him up in the rookie draft.

I suspect Erikson and Davis will be cut too. I know you have to be patient soon, but you'd hope to see some signs by now of form that could translate to AFL level but both still look pretty lost at ACTAFL level. I think Sam Rowe deserves another year, even though he's probably a couple of cms too short to be a true AFL ruckman, and I hope they stick with Shaw too. But I reckon only two of these three (including Erikson) will stay.

Micky O is eligible for the veteran list next year, which opens up another spot on the senior list if the club wants to use it.

That's certainly true. Any trade would need to be part of a package deal to attract some interest. However, if it came to delisting, I'm confident that we'd at least offer him another year before cutting him loose. I wouldn't blame him for not taking it, though. I'm sure that he curses the day that the Swans picked him up.

If I were him I'd ask to be traded. Turning 28 and not being clearly inside your team's best 22 isn't a comfortable position for a player to be in.

Sounds like a bit of wishful thinking to me.

Now that some of the younger players have stepped up (and esp. the way Macca has bulked up) we have a plethora of similarly sized players on the list who all can generate play in the middle with the added bonus of having offensive elements to their game.

Unfortuntely for Benny, he remains a purely defensive player from what is now looking to be a bit of a bygone era for the Swannies - the days when preventing other teams scoring was the sole focus of those in the middle.

The one thing he has that the Coaching staff would be loathe to simply toss is his experience. But as we saw with Nicksy before him, experience is a commodity that gets diluted on a weekly basis as the younger players get more game time.

Moore's injury probably saved his season, I'd say. Hope Dempster isn't the one to miss out come finals time, though.

We can't dump Chambers, he's signed a 3 year contract and provides depth at the very least.

Willoughby will have very little trade value as teams can pick him up as a rookie if he's cut. Very sad as I think he can play. Phillips's role in the seniors has been interesting. I thought he would be used exclusively as a forward but he has spent quite a bit of time in the midfield as well. If that were going to be the case, I'd thought you would give Willoughby a chance in that role.

As for Mathews, despite what most of the fans think, I'm sure the coaching staff and the players still value him highly and he would go straight into the 22 if he were fully fit.

Never were truer words spoken (erm...typed).
