Hey Doggies, bit of a nothing year not making the finals, but really if you don’t have a backline you will cop it in the rear pretty regularly, for example Hawks, Adelaide, Brisbane and finally Freo. Anyway…my favourite moments of 2025 are as follows:

1. Sam Darcy not doing his ACL. I literally became erect when I was informed Sam had only suffered bone bruising and wouldn’t be crippled like his father by an ACL injury.

2. Sam Darcy’s mark vs Melbourne.

3. Rhylee West kicking 40 odd goals and being a genuine hard campaigner.

4. Crofty’s late season emergence. For me, it makes it much easier to say good by to JUH at the end of year. This bloke will be a player.

Have at it. Give me your best moment.

The 3rd quarter vs the lions at Norwood oval, the moment I realised how vanilla we were in 2025 as we let them kick a heap of unanswered goals in a row…. Sigh.

I thought 2025 was a good year don’t @ me. Lots of fun was had.

Libba’s chase.

Bonts return goal (same game)

Crofty’s first couple of marks and goal

Darcy undressing Sam Taylor

Freijah ripping apart the swans

Arty’s sidestep goal in rd 24

Westy’s banana against the dees

Westy’s too small celly against Essendon

Darcy’s mark of the year

Freijah's four goals against Sydney

The whole last quarter of the Melbourne game

Watching us beng the highest scoring team in the comp was genuinely fun. It was an entertaining brand of footy when we took the game on.

Bailey Dale's 49 possession game

Watching Naughton in the worst form of his career for half a season and then turn into Wayne Carey was awesome

Every moment of Sam Darcy was worth my Kayo subscription alone

Rhylee West single-handedly curing my testosterone deficiency

The emergence of Oskar Baker as one of best players in the comp

I've grown a mo from just watching Rhylee West's antics.. and I'm actually female.

1. The General emergence of Joel "Fridge" Freijah. Star in the making.

2. Second Half comeback against those Navy Dorks.

3. Naughton's round 14-21 performances.

4. Even though we fell short, our relentless desire to win our Centenary game was inspiring. Williamson you slime!

5. SAM DARCY...Nuff said.

6. Libba's epic chase down on Hill.

7. Watching Davidson and Sanders both show aspects of their potential as linking pieces

Loved the comeback against the Cats and being in a position to be put the game away with 5 minutes left (alas we couldn't). Also side note, not targeting Smith at all in hindsight was so disappointing.

we played some kids, we smashed some teams, we came up marginally short in an unprecedented year (both in ladder position and losing margins)

more spearmint than vanilla to me

in the final round we were fielding a team with 10 players having played less than 50 games

even mr magoo should be able to see some upside with 2025

bevo's plan all along was to have a 10 year break between flags, so look our next year

Maybe not a single moment but some revelations ...
  • Sam Darcy becoming the Next Big Thing in footy
  • Ed Richards' consistent elite form making him one of the highest rated players (by CD) in the AFL
  • Aaron Naughton defying all the detractors once he was fully recovered and kicking 41 goals in the last 11 games
  • A batch of first and second year players giving us the promise of great things to come. In particular Freijah, Dolan, Hynes, Croft, Davidson, Sanders and maybe you can add the untried Jaques, Smith, Sellwood and Walker. Maybe only a couple of A-graders there but it's a solid cohort of capable players to carry us through the next decade.
  • Rhylee West fulfilling his early promise and becoming an elite F50 player
  • Matt Kennedy being close to the recruit of the year. Instantly made the side better.
  • Arty Jones showing late in the season that he might at last make the grade. Cleary too.
  • Oskar Baker showing what hard work and last-chance determination can do you, even as a 27yo.
I've named 18 players there without mentioning Bont, Libba, English, Lobb or Dale. Or the (hopefully) recovered Weightman and Treloar.

Not a bad platform for 2026.

Darcy puts Papley on his arse, Papley gets back up and then is promptly put on his arse again by VDM.

Rhylee West being a dirtbag all year is also up there for mine. “Too Small” was a solid favourite.
