I remember the night after the 1990 Grand Final when Terry Daniher was arrested for hitting Gav Brown on the field...a little known fact and something the AFL has hushed up

he ended up in the cell with me

that night Terry Daniher became my bitch...

yeah right:eek:

Actual first Aussie rules experience.

Mine was sitting up at some un-godly hour in the morning watching in snowy black & white (as a kid in queensland) a replay of a grand final between Carlton & Collingwood. After getting used to the fact that they were allowed to knock-on & forward pass at 1/2 time I thought that this Collingwood (seemed a funny name to me at the time) were pretty good.

However at full time I was left wondering how a team could get beaten from such a position of strength. The only other positive was that for some unknown reason I took an instant dislike of the other mob.

With my grandparents both being North supporters, I would think that my first memories would be of the 1977 GF and more importantly the 1980 Night GF.
Gotta love those deaf umpires!!!!

Gotta love those deaf umpires!!!!

It was umpire Bill Deller if i remember correctly. He was rewarded with the job as umpires director for his years of incompetent umpiring.

Arrives australia 1983

Watches Aussie rules game on telly in april between Collingwood and Hawks I think... Cant remember much as I was 16 and had never seen a game before in my life, but as a Newcastle Untied boy (pom) instantly adopte the familiar Black and White stripes.
We of course lost the game but I was and am commited to the magpie cause.
