Felt I played ok, irons were rusty, turning over right to left too far.

Yep, 130 to the flag just turned it over right to left to far.
Swing was too quick

Pot shot ran 12ft past pin

Playing tomorrow with one of the guys who ran the clinics that got me into golf. Will be great to see how a good player (he plays off 1) goes

Yeah fair enough. I hate it when I’m getting held up by people playing out 10’s. I play on a course that’s got heaps of bush so slow play is a massive problem. We actually have a local rule that 10 is the mercy rule even when playing stoke.
I’m not a fan of your local rule. It isn’t fair for low handicappers in stroke competitions.

Had my best comp round yet today but probably choked a bit with a potential win.

started off 22, had 36 points but had a wipe and took 7 on a par five to finish so missed a golden opportunity for 39-40. The last hole included a four putt as well.

oddly I forgot my driver (took my son to the driving range midweek and left it in wife’s car) so borrowed a cheap second hand one from the pro-shop - an Optima - I didn’t even realise they made clubs as well as balls. This thing was fantastic. I was striping the cover off it.

I had 33pts on Thursday and 29pts yesterday. I felt a little off yesterday and woke up early this morning with a head cold. Yesterday was the first time I hadn’t got the handicapping equivalent of 30pts in my last 10 rounds. Three washes and bad putting on cored greens didn’t help. Sand and holes everywhere didn’t help. Obviously, it had to be done though.

Cored greens should equal discount green / comp fees

89 today. Drove terribly, only hit 2 fairways when i would normally be in 7-9 range. Hit more trees than i normally would hit in a month.
Highlight was a par 5. Drive to the left side of the fairway. 3w catches the tree on the corner. Goes 60 forward and then 40 back onto the fairway. Snap hook the 3w in to the rough on the other side of the next fairway. Wedge on from about 100 to about 12 feet. Knock in the putt. Easy par

Do you write that all down after every hole? Or do you have an app or something?

Decided after 11 holes I was tiger and tried too many risky shots,

This is a big problem for me. I’m nowhere near good but will try to hit through a 2m gap, or try to drive over trees to a fairway that bends around rather than hitting straight to the corner

My problem is being caught in two minds, even if I do take the risky attacking shot, I second guess myself and swing timidly for not wanting to make a mistake which is the worst thing you can do. If you're going take the hero shot on, you've gotta commit to it as if you were Tiger or Mickelson. At least that gives you some chance of pulling it off, if you take it on but are scared and timid and don't swing fully and accelerate, it's no chance of coming off.

After playing comp Saturday and a social round yesterday I actually feel like I've got that balance really down-pat at the moment, I just need to refine it a bit. So I know right now if my hero shot involves height, I can more or less pull it off or at least improve my position. i use a very open club face and get a lot of height. Hitting hero shots through gaps or hoping for a clear run through leaves, I can't trust yet. So i play out.

I haven't had that round yet where i get all the luck from my recovery shots. On Saturday there were 3 shots I hit out of trouble that were fairly high percentage (a couple of two-iron low punches, and six iron) but they all hit branches that were about as wide as a broom handle, flush, and dropped. 6cm either higher or lower, or in one case, left or right, and I'd have been right where I was aiming.

Starting to notice now that the number of clubs I have full faith in has risen too. 9/PW/SW are all really reliable of my higher irons, 5/6 of the lower ones too.

Nope just remember it.
Most holes ive mapped out before the round tbh. (Its also my way of ensuring I choose wisely off the tee)

To be honest, I could probably recall each 1st putt on the greens even now.
Its sad really 🤣

Amazing. I genuinely have to think hard what my score is at the end of each hole, mind you I'm probably shooting Bogeys or worse.

Convinced my girlfriend to caddy for me tomorrow. Great on a few fronts:

1. she can video my swing so I can look at what I’m doing right or wrong. And if I crush one it can go on social media.

2. She can watch where my ball goes. I’ll be more likely to keep my head down if I’m not worried about making sure I don’t lose it.

3. she can push my buggy

4. magpies are less likely to attack a pair

Oh and she said something about spending time together sharing one of my passions too

Speaking from experience, there's nothing worse than a cold girlfriend on a golf course. Make sure she's prepared.
