Question for all the competitive golfers out there - how’d you go starting out playing comps? I only play socially and practice quite a lot and to be honest Im very nervous about the idea of playing in tournaments and comps with formal rules and under pressure.

Did it take time getting used to it? Is it actually enjoyable?

i have played for a hell of a long time but just socially and with a lot of gaps in between 'spurts' so to speak so the rules have changed significantly in that time. I was a bit nervous about knowing the rules and etiquette and so forth but was lucky enough to play with a good mate in my first comp round and he explained a lot of it as we went along. I have probably played 8-9 comp rounds now, came close to winning a couple of times, and this weekend I'm at the stage where I've found a spare tee time with a guy that was in our group twice and I'm not concerned about the fact that I won't be playing with my mate or whatever.

What I have found a bit intimidating is that across those 8-9 rounds, only two players of the 12-13 guys I've played with, only 3 have had a higher handicap than me and basically all the others are off single figures. I found that quite daunting. After a while though you realise these guys play just as many bad shots as you do. They just recover better and putt better. Two weeks ago I played with a guy who shot -1 off the stick - his first shot of the day was a topped drive that went 45 degrees to the left, and about 15 metres in total.

Ultimately it has actually helped me playing with those guys.

The weather was so nice today, and there was **** all happening at work so I had a extended lunch break and played 9 holes. Three over. Back to back birdies on the two 250m par 4s. Accidentally grabbed a 5 iron instead of a 6 on a 160m par 3 and flew the green :(

Very happy with where the game is at, biggest area I need to work on is getting pitch shots and chips two or three meters closer to increase the amount of made putts.

With Bathurst on will the golf course be mostly clear? Then again, there’s probably no crowds at Bathurst.
How is the course looking? Watching the racing yesterday I’ve never seen the scenery so green.

The crowd is capped at 4000 so there’s hardly anyone in town compared to normal. The course was pretty normal yesterday for a Thursday comp day - I played a gig at the club last night and everyone there was a local basically.

Mate it is SO green. The course is in absolutely ripping nick.

Bookings made for every day from monday through to saturday. fingers crossed
Its very likely that it will be announced we are allowed to golf in the next week or two. But thats not smart from clubs to allow bookings yet, a lot of admin if they've gotta organise full day cancellations if its delayed a week.

How many courses are doing these?

Not really. Click one button and boom sheets closed.

Whats the alternative? Sunday dan announces golf open, then call made to staff of courses across metro vic to come in and set up ready for golf not even 24 hours later?

Was more asking if public courses that take phone or online bookings where it might not just be a members time sheet could be a real pain in the ass to have to cancel 40 bookings a day. Hopefully we are back on, wouldn't suprise me if it was another week though

“I can tell you that clubhouses will not be open on Monday but if we can take other stops to give people back a few of the things that they love, the things that will give them a bit of sense of normality… they are the sort of things we will be looking at,” Mr Andrews said.

He didn't say pro shops will be closed :D

Played an Ambrose with work yesterday. I won a closest to the pin. Group didn't get in the prizes with 8 under off the stick. 5 birdies in first 6 holes. Some serious golfers out there. Longest drive won by +3 handicapper who was nudging 300m with his drive. Just huge.

1 new case today, surely we're back on for golf in melb.
I was flat as a tack yesterday when Dan hinted maybe not just yet. Organised my diary to have nothing on Monday (not that I would get on a public course anyway as spots will fill pretty quick)...just need to do something different. Fingers crossed. I would pay big bucks for pitch and putt atm lol.

126 today, stroke round. One 10 but had some disappointing holes.

reached a point now where my driving can be up and down, my middle play is ok, chipping passable and putting unreliable.

My best score remains 110 but on a day where my driver works, or if I putt well, I could get to breaking 100.
