I used to love it when it rained... and then I took up golf. Another wash out on the cards for this weekend with all the rain we're having at the moment

Well well well. I trembled with fear as I booked into a morning round at the National GC. Great fear set in as the rain pelted surburban Melbourne heading south, the direction I needed to head in. The wipers got a good work out and the car cleaned by the rain. Arriving there, the smell of wet was in the air, and everyone checked the radar, although thought turned to positive as report from scout promised sky clear ahead.

With spitting conditions 30 mins before, and nothing come tee time we were most pleased.
Front 9 was dominating. Driving crazy. Accurate, ok missed some fairways but not dangerous. Putting a let down and needed to find groove fast with the flat stick. Iron play great, and hybrids? CRUNCH!!! Bunkers? No problem. Fun! 20 points bitches.

On the 9th Par 3 we let through a group of 2 through (we were only a 2 as well). Momentum lost immediately.

Back 9 familiar sliced drives returned, and shanky irons. Putting strokes returned which saved me. A paltry 14 points, played so badly but ya know in isolation 4 pts under par for the 9 isnt too bad.
One wipe for the day.

Windy as buggery, moreso than usual. However on the closing 3 holes (most difficult closing) we hit with the wind. Probably didnt use to our advantage but that's life. Im Derryn Hinch.

34 pts off 20.

Frustrating round for me on Sunday morning. Was kept awake until ~3am by a dog barking across the park. Woke up 15min before my tee time. Played terribly for the first 11 holes. Ended up with 13 on the front 18 on the back. Putting really let me down.

I figure I'd prefer to do something with my Sunday instead of waking up late!

Just read through the nominations for the board of directions/president/club captain and entered my votes. One of the bio's was so poorly written my head almost exploded. Tough time for the golfing industry at the moment.
Agreed
Clubs in decline and membership numbers getting lower

Clubs need to engage with schools to spark interest

Yeah, I see it more as the entire industry contracting after the boom in the late 90s through to the GFC. The game became too big to sustain itself.

With my club the golfing side of it is fine it is the clubhouse and restaurant which is bleeding the business and getting it into trouble. I just don't think the restaurant and clubhouse are available to or desirable enough with respect to the broader community...especially those who have no interaction with golf...makes it unviable.

Its such a difficult sport to get kids into. Time, cost. At my club during school holdays however there are heaps of kids in group lessons. they're noisy and have fun. it's nice.

but to get them out onto the course? difficult especially during the summer.

Actually, my son "drags" me out to the course all the time. I think like most anything else sports wise, if the kids like it/have fun, they will play. I started by taking him to a par 3 course near our house last fall when he was 7. He probably knows more about clubs and players than I do a year later.

Reason I inquired about that Sydney club above is because he is involved in a Kids Golf thing that has an affiliation with Australia as well. Should the Crows be fortunate enough to get past the Swans and Kitty Kats, I am toying with the idea of going to the Grand Final with him. There is a tournament set for a couple days after the GF and I think it would be an awesome experience for him to play there in Sydney on our way home.

So there are organizations.....and in fact there will be an inaugural "Australian Open" in January for the same Kids Golf Tour. If we don't make it out this year, we will get down your guys way in the next year or two.

great post. sorry, i was speaking from my own personal experience of getting kids (aged between 8-14) out at the course I play at. generally the club prefers you to take a later tee time (arvo) to allow the field to go through. its no biggie considering no one around or up your coight. lol.

Get out here ASAP! especially if your crows make it through!

I mean I get it, but so much cringe.
me too. ive been a big fan of hers for a while. sure I think her swing is put on a bit, but she's a very attractive lady. that particular vid was cringey, but i guess that's the life of an "instagram model/celeb

35 today. 16 front 19 back. Was 50m out on the 18th par 5 after 2. Lost concentration on the wedge and sprayed it 10m left. Ended up with a 7 a 1...ergh
That type of crap is my specialty. You could throw the ball on the green ffs. Golf can be so bloody frustrating!

Howlong.
Was a 1.00 shotgun start. Cancelled by about 11.00. There was a morning tee off, unsure if they got any in.
Is wet though
Yep got 12 holes in.
I played howlong as well.
1st 4 holes were ok, then the greens became a river.
We were 5 under, 6 holes to play, teed off down the 1st hole waiting to hopefully hit 2nd onto the green when the siren sounded
