I play approximately once every three weeks. Haven't really improved for a while though, averaging 50 over 9 / 100 over 18. Did have a very good round a few weeks ago though shooting a 44 on a par 35 with 7 bogeys, 1 par and one double bogey - probably the most consistent round I have ever had.

so at the range prior to last round i was showing my ability to hit a chip shot (with 56 deg wedge) sideways. honestly you couldnt do it if you tried. i felt like a ****.

on the back 9 had a chance to use the club to chip and run. same result. playing partner said "at least you're bringing what you did at the range to the course"

hur hur

maybe go back to a nine iron and practice chip and running with that.

i had the s. hanks with the wedge a while back. hate that feeling.

wasnt comfy with the 9 iron. i know it sounds silly but wasnt feeling it in my hands.

What is the best club to chip n run with? I've been told a 7..don't feel confident enough to try it in a round though..

my coach has got me warming up with a 7 iron, and focusing on using it for practice. so you could use it.

to be honest whatever u r comfy with.

Probably never been comfy playing that shot I guess, prefer a flop type shot.. something else to practice on I guess!

i wouldn't practice chip n running with a 7 iron, but like PN said it's a good club for highish handicappers to practice with on the range.

depending on how hard/soft the green is i could be chip and running with a 9 iron, or if the greens are lighting quick a sand wedge, but played more off the back foot.

chipping is one of the hardest things to get good at IMO. it's also one of the parts of the game you don't seem to put a lot of time in. you tend to smash irons on the range or putt around on the practice green.

if i was you i'd start with a 9 iron and practice with it as much as you can. make sure you're grip/stance is right and go from there.

you'll be amazed at home many strokes you will save if you tidy up your chipping and putting.

Yeh, I've been trying to work on my putting recently..it's quite poor. Chipping I don't feel is too bad, just that chip and run I don't feel comfortable with at all. Appreciate the tips!

i dont mind flopping, but not on the golf course.

flopping is hard to do as well. consider putting instead (within reason of course)

also chipping on mats is so counter productive.

i used to have this problem and it jumps up every now and then.

1) your hands are to far in front of the ball

2) your grip is to strong

3) not releasing your wrist hinge

can be a combination of all three as well, i worked on keeping my head slightly behind the ball but weight on the front foot, this seemed to help with chip and pitch ball striking. also dont hold those wrists too long if you are using your wrists

Has anyone heard of a 3 man Ambrose format called "Bensons" instead of the standard 4 drives per person it is 3 Drives + 1 of the par 3's. I've never played it before but it seems like a great format

nope. what do u mean +1 of the par 3s? does that mean the team must take a par 3 tee shot for each player?

yes so 3 drives during the round plus a par 3 (so 4 drives in total still)

Played the 1st and 2nd round of the club championship this weekend, in treacherous conditions.

Had 83 the 1st round with a 3 putt on every frigging green. I was like Dwight from the FT line. Couldn't hole anything.

81 today which isn't too bad considering the conditions and the way i hit it.

1 shot behind in the A reserve section. Like Sophie Vergara's husband, i like coming from behind.

Which course? and what is your handicap?
